John's Pizza — Restaurant in Danbury

This is a unfortunate review. I really wanted to like this pizza, but it may have been the worst tasting pizza I've had in CT for a while. I only stopped here to try it because it has great overall ratings. The owner was a very nice guy, I love the feel of the shop, the old school style pizza, friendly locals chatting about the old days and how expensive things are now. It felt very rustic, but that's where the positives end. I ordered a small pepperoni pizza, and with any pepperoni pizza I expect some grease, when I say I used 15 napkins to pat the grease off this pizza pie, I'm not exaggerating. Next, the sauce at this place may be the worst sauce I've encountered in the tri-state area. It tastes like hunt's canned sauce with a mountain of oregano added to it. I don’t have anything bad to say about John’s. The pizza is amazing! We ended up here a second time for dinner and treated local family of ours from PA & NY and they all said the pizzas was “amazing” and “some of the best I’ve had in a long time.” John and his family were all kind and helpful and happy to chat, very welcoming. Anyone who comes to this area should stop at John’s. I suggest the garlic bread & the “John’s specialty white pizza” it was so unique, never seen that anywhere else and it was SO delicious! Fantastic homemade bread & pizza dough, the crust was superb. One thing to note - it is cash only. His prices are great though! We had a great time at John’s Pizza. The owner and his friends/family made us feel right at home by welcoming our group of tourists from North Dakota with open arms. A lot of positives about this place. 1) the food was amazing.. I suggest the meat lovers pizza, as it was a hit with everyone who tried it. 2) then the welcoming and friendly atmosphere. Extremely friendly owner and other patrons. We received a lot of great tips that were helpful for our trip, such as sights to see, and the best way to get around.
