My memory of this sub shop was a long long time ago. I remember walking through the front door and seeing a picture a cartoon picture of the husband and wife that owned this restaurant back in the 1970s. I remember Christina the young daughter or lol maybe the granddaughter. I remember the young vet who was always in the wheelchair. I remember the pinball machines in the back and the back door that went into the alley . I would sometimes go through the back door with my child hood friend Shawna Dennon . I remember how many memories passed by the death of Elvis and the Donny and Marie Osmond show and Sonny and Cher. What priceless memories . I was born a Harris even though my father was the funeral director Donald Wilt (Red) from Bloomsburg. But I do appreciate my grass roots the Harris family my family ( Harrisburg PA). I am so incredibly great full my mother moved to New York Rockland County 25 minute’s from New York City. I will always love memories of Riverside and my kindergarten with Mrs Rexstiner and the big flood. But most of all I cherish the life experiences I had and the sub shop will always be special and never...
Read moreMy wife and I ordered two subs, and sat at the counter to watch them be made. There was a sign posted clearly in the work area that said, "All employees must wear gloves." I watched some guy from the back kitchen take a bare handed fist of bacon and hand it to a bare handed woman who then smashed the bacon into the bread. The whole crew then set about using their bare hands to add every ingredient to both of our subs. Its not just that we are experiencing a lethal flu epidemic, or even that we have no idea where their hands have been, but that they did this in full view of the sign telling them to wear gloves (like every other food serving establishment) and the customers.
We then went on to pay $27.00 for two subs and a 99 cent bag of chips. The quality was not quite subway standard (where they wear gloves by the way), but they actually asked for a tip when we were trying to pay and leave. Not only do they stick their disgusting fingers in your food, but they demand a tip. They can only "accept" a tip starting at 20%.
Unsanitary, bad prices, bad manners, bad...
Read moreI have a long history with this sub shop, I worked here when I was a teen back in the late 80s while Tony still owned and ran the restaurant so it was neat going back for a sub now. The last time I stepped foot in the place was in '92. I cannot believe the place is almost identical to when I last was in. A few coats of paint and some new equipment but the same lay out and counter. The food was very good but the only difference is I am now spoiled by homemade crusty Italian buns as opposed to the processed buns. Reminded me of hotdog/hamburger buns. The food was good though. We had cheese steaks with onions peppers and sauce. Very flavorful and filling. The gentleman behind the counter was soo sweet, he made out food as well. He talked with us for awhile and said he was Tony's nephew so it's good to see it stayed in the family. We would definitely stop back if we came back up from Harrisburg again. 56 years is a long time to have a sub shop ,,,,,good for them ...I hope they last another 50...
