After a long night shift at the hospital, I was really in the mood for a bagel. Im new to the area, and I like to support small businesses, so I googled "bagels" and this spot popped up.
I can't say that the food is good or bad since I didn't try any.
I wanted to, I really did, I love bagels, and cream cheese, I really wanted this to be my go-to place for bagels, but I did not expect the customer service to be....well...not the best.
I wanted to try their chocolate chip cream cheese because I've never thought to mix chocolate chips with cream cheese. But to get a response of "it's just cream cheese and chocolate chips" didn't feel welcoming. I wanted to try it, but it sounded like they really didn't want to have to give me some to try. Then I learned that they make it fresh, so it doesn't sit out so long. Which, I wouldn't want to make some "just for someone to try" either.
While that is interesting, but with more reason, it would make me want to try it because that means there's other variables occurring that change the flavor every time. Even if it is just "cream cheese and chocolate chips," how long do they mix it for? Is it whipped? That just means the texture changes every time then, it doesn't mean it's not good, it just means it's different every time. Along with quantity, look, etc, I can go on. I know I probably come off as over thinking this kind of stuff, but I myself spent 3 years working at a bagel shop baking bagels and whipping cream cheese as well, so I've really thought about the small things that readlly make an experience come together...or fall apart.
I dont know if it was the owner or the manager that then said I could try it, but the unwelcomed feeling just sank in when I had 3 employees staring at me for a response.
I dont see myself going back, I'm not a fan of going to places that don't feel welcoming or inviting. The bagelry does look cute though.
I do want to clarify, they weren't mean or rude, it just felt unwelcoming.
Leaving 4 stars to support a small business and encourage anyone reading my review to try it for yourself. Maybe I just went in on a bad morning it doesn't mean you will have the same experience, so I encourage you to go...
Read moreI had high hopes for Old City Bagel. We visited in the morning and ordered 2 bagel breakfast sandwiches. We were excited to try some made in house egg bagels. We ordered and waited patiently in the small but cozy seating area. After a bit of a wait we received our order. Upon opening the paper wrapping I noticed there was a long dark curly hair in the middle of my sandwich that I had to remove from both halves. (I was willing to look past this, things happen) Upon first bite I realized I should have ordered a beverage. Our sandwiches were dry as the desert and nearly flavorless. The bagels had an almost over proofed texture and were tough and dry. I'm not sure if day olds are used for the breakfast sandwiches but maybe we came on an off day? I have never had a bagel that bad and I love bagels. I don't think we will be visiting again. I hope this was an off day because there are so many...
Read moreDrink was decent, I got a vanilla latte. Classic and hard to mess up. Breakfast sandwich was bomb. Bagel was great and the bacon was decent and the cheese was yummy. Got a couple desserts from the available case and was disappointed. The sticky bun would have been better had a microwave been available. The caramelized sugar was just that, so it acted closer to a tough toffee. Atmosphere had potential but left some room for desire. Might have been a music thing. i dont recall it making it a good impact that enhanced the atmosphere. It took FOREVER to get my breakfast sandwich. I am unsure what was taking so long in the kitchen area. Meanwhile there were 3 employees standing waiting for work such as a new customer but three people not stepping in to assist where it was needed. I recall 5 other people waiting for their order from the...
