The food is always delicious, but the service is fair at best. On multiple occasions, our waitress forgot our drinks or said she would be right back, but it took 20+ minutes to come back to take our order. This isn't the first-time that this has happened. We hoped that the slow service was a one-time occurrence, but when it happens multiple times on more than one visit, it is time to move on. Slow service ruins everything and even worse when the food is delicious .
The Hot Cubes appetizer was delicious. These lightly fried cubes of Monterey jack cheese was delicious alone or dipped in ranch sauce. The Fried Biscuits & Apple Butter appetizer was delicious as well. The biscuits were perfectly fried and had a good coating of tasty cinnamon sugar. And paired with a flavorful apple butter makes this the perfect appetizer. Soft and pillowy biscuits which were warm, and perfectly accompanied by the dark and delicious Apple butter. The Fried Catfish was moist and perfectly fried, and the coating was light and crunchy. My wife loves the Fried Chicken and says it is the best she had ever tasted. Tonight she dipped it into the Bacon Glaze and enjoyed it. Our son loved his Grilled Cheese.
Today we had the pleasure of sitting upstairs, and a very nice view of town hall from up top looking down. Don't turn down an opportunity to start off the meal with complimentary fresh baked rolls with a cinnamon honey butter. The warm rolls melt the butter, and just divine to eat. They introduced a Smoked Ribs meal that was delicious. I could have eaten them just as is without a wet sauce. It was that good. Smoky, flavorful and tender meat covered sparingly, bust just enough, with a mild yet flavorful bbq sauce. Combined with green beans and mashed potatoes with gravy this meal was a perfect dinner. If Smoked Ribs are on the Specials Menu you should definitely try them. Our server was very friendly and happy.
You feel like you are back in Mayberry on the set of The Andy Griffith Show. The theme is evident throughout the restaurant by the decor, street signs, sheriff's car, pictures, memorabilia and constant running of the Andy Griffith Show episodes. We ordered the Fried Biscuits & Apple Butter appetizer, and enjoyed it. Light and fluffy biscuits coated in cinnamon sugar, and the Apple Butter was perfectly smooth with the right amount of spice. The Blue Gill dinner was mild and flaky and lightly coated and fried, and with tartar sauce it tasted even better. The baked potato and broccoli were baked and cooked to perfection. Aunt Bee's Fried Chicken was juicy and had a light and crispy coating. The mashed potatoes were so delicious that they did not need any butter. The Peach Cobbler dessert had a nice flavor with a hint of cinnamon, and tasted even better with vanilla ice cream. Simple...
Read moreWow. A few minutes ago our family tradition was blown out of the water. I visit my doctor in Danville, IN. She’s very, very good so we drive all the way to Danville. Then afterward my husband, daughter and I go eat at the Mayberry Cafe. We have been doing this for years. We didn’t receive any bread as we always have in the past, nor were we asked if we wanted any. We were starving. (I had tests so I didn’t eat.) ok, could be an oversight. Time kept passing. We kept looking around. Looked around some more. The place was not packed. We complained to a server who walked by. She said she would get the manager. We were ready to leave. Then the food came. It took 45 minutes. When we were halfway through our meal the manager stopped by our table. She was sorry that our meal “wasn’t perfect”. Wrong thing to say. Beyond wrong. That made me angry. I very rarely get angry. Close to never. I explained that we don’t care about perfect. (My tenderloin was way over salted. My husband’s chicken and mashed potatoes were good. My daughter’s fish was good. I left most of my sandwich on the plate. I’ll live.)(I’m not looking for free meals. I don’t do that.) As for the bread, you have to ask for it now. The manager continued to tell me that the health inspector was there. Ohhhhkay. I’m familiar with health inspectors. They don’t hold up the food. The implication was that it was the health inspector’s fault. Then she wanted to give us a card for one free dessert. Hard PASS. She lost me at “perfect” and she lost my husband at one free dessert when he paid $50 for lunch. He said it was an insult and “chintzy” on the manager’s part. It was never about money for me. It was about horrible service and her attitude about it. Yes, I did my homework. I talked to the locals. There have been many complaints and “the place has gone downhill.” Hard...
Read moreMe and my wife has been talking about going to Mayberry for some time. We finally made it today and then went to the car show afterwards. Let me start by saying our server was so Nice and attentive. From the very start, she made us feel welcomed. She told us about the special Of the day and the soups of the day, she then offered us appetizers and drinks, and we declined on appetizers. I’m a sucker for tenderloins. I asked our server how they were and she said they were amazing and very big. I was not disappointed, my wife had a two-piece aunt bees, chicken with double mashed potatoes and gravy. We were celebrating her birthday. We also bought a whole coconut cream pie and let me tell you it did not disappoint us when we got home. We got that to go so I would say this restaurant is amazing. We will definitely be coming back, the food was amazing. The atmosphere was amazing and server, She was very attentive kept our drinks filled up and stayed on top of everything. The only thing I would say that I didn’t like and it’s not really that Bad is that we were seated in the very first booth as you come into the restaurant so of course everybody that walks by we see them and they look at our food, it was OK cause we just did...
