Fay's Restaurant and Catering — Restaurant in Dartmouth

It was just beautiful last Sunday 9/26/21, & still bright & warm @ 4:30. so we decided to eat outside ( probably one of the last times we'll get to dine outside) It was just my daughter & I, so we decided to split a few things . Our table was set up immediately with Fays delicious bread & dipping oil. We started our meal with the best clamcakes we had ever eaten; Portuguese style with peppers, onions & linguica from Fays Summer menu. Omg I could probably eat these things 2-3x a week no probs (I would be the size of a barn, but words can't describe these crispy non greasy morsels of deliousness (yes they were that good). Next we split a crab cake "burger" & it came with a pile of fries. The taste was spot on,& was loaded with fresh crab, but it kind of fell apart, it wasn't crispy as expected, but of course we plowed right through it was still amazingly yummy. In addition, we had a salad consisting of baby greens, strawberries, candied pecans & feta, it was mouth watering. We also ordered an antipasto salad,(with Italian meats) & an order of Lasagna ( both were delish 😋) to bring home for the guys. Including a very generous tip for our fantastic considerate personable waitress, I left a,$100 bill to cover it all. I normally do not like to post negative reviews and especially for a restaurant we really enjoy but our experience yesterday (Mother's Day) was not a good one at all (and we were not the only table with this issue). I had a Mothers Day dinner reservation for me and my family. Our drink order and food order was taken at the same time when our waiter arrived at the table. Our bread and oil was served and our drinks were brought out. A 1/2 hour went by and still no food. We ordered another round of drinks while we waited and still no explanation of the hold up. We didnt get our food until almost 1 1/2 hours after we ordered! One meal was cold and another had a substitution of pasta instead of fries and when that meal was served, we were told they had run out of pasta!!! During that long wait no one ever came over to explain that there was a problem which we would have understood ....things happen! Someone should have come over to address the problem and not just leave us sitting there waiting. They were nice enough to give us complimentary desserts however we had to take them to go because the restaurant was closing. I realize all restaurants can have a bad night but if we were informed of what was going on, the night could have...

I tried to take the high road in regard to this review, I tried sending a private message through their web site but since I got no reply at all and reviews here have a response I decided to put it here. Thursday night is pizza night in my house. Last week, I placed my take out order at 4:38 pm. I was told upon arriving there that they were a bit behind. A bit behind in my mind is 5 to 10 minutes. I did not get my pizzas until 5:40 pm, a full hour after placing my order. To make the evening even more of a disaster, I knew as soon as they handed me the boxes that the pizzas were not hot, meaning they sat somewhere for a while. I didn't complain right then and there because I figured I would just reheat them when I got home. I was totally wrong on that count. Not only were the pizzas cold, they had been overcooked to begin with making the crust crumbly and in most of the areas blackened. Add in the typical lack of sauce and I had 4 dry pizzas that no one in my household wanted to eat. With all due honesty, generally the pizza is pretty good even with the lack of sauce. As I said in my private submission, bad service combined with substandard food can happen when being short staffed but not answering a consumer's complaint is just...
