Read moreIt's not easy to find authentic Chinese food, let alone northern Chinese food in the Davis area. That is one of the reasons why we were excited to find out that Dah Bao was opening. On our first visit, we ordered a beef noodle soup, pork and veggie buns, and iced tea. We were nothing short of astounded by the flavor, texture and generous portion sizes of both types of buns. The pork buns contained a small amount of pickled mustard greens (or similar) that provided a pleasant crunch to accompany their hearty flavor. The vegetable buns, with their mix of cabbage, mushroom and egg, were just as delicious and almost as filling. The beef noodle soup was deeply flavorful and we even brought home the leftover soup to boil vegetables in. A few days later we made a second visit to buy additional buns and try the Zhajiang noodles. The noodles were cooked just right, with a touch of elasticity or "tan ya", with a hint of sweetness that accompanied the light sauce consisting of ground pork, edamame and tofu. I look forward to this restaurant becoming a regular treat for us, whether we're having an especially busy work day or kicking back to...
Read moreGood food, large portions with enough to take home. The drinks are not as flavorful as other places, particularly the Yakult drinks which did not have much Yakult flavor. It was very warm and muggy inside, so it was a little uncomfortable to eat there on a warmer spring evening. We ended not finishing our meal and took it home to finish because my wife and kids were complaining about how hot and muggy they were. Overall a good place to get food, but their drinks are not as good as other Boba/Tea shops in town. Also for the comfort of customers, they should turn on the A/C (might have been broken, but I didn’t ask). We did like their food which was flavorful and would go back for their other food dishes, but may get our tea...
