Rooms have a rather infuriating feature: there's a motion sensor at the entrance that turns off most of the power in the room if it doesn't detect motion in the room. The sign says power is cut after 30 minutes of no activity, but in my room it was more like 5. And me sitting in front of my computer wasn't enough activity for the motion sensor - the lights constantly kept turning off.
To make things worse, you sleeping in bed will definitely count as no activity, so be careful where you plug in your phone overnight, or else you might not be charging! (See attached picture - at least the outlets that lose power are marked. There are a couple that continue to supply power.) And, the thermostat seems to reset to a very energy-saving temperature when there's no movement. This means when you're sleeping on a hot night, the thermostat may decide to set itself to 78. Thankfully, it was the perfect temperature in Davis when I visited, so I hardly noticed, but I can imagine this being very disruptive.
I can understand trying to save power, but this is a very guest-unfriendly feature. There's a reason most hotels use a key card holder to control master power instead - this is the tried and true method.
Like with the power situation, it feels like management is trying to cut costs, while employees are doing their best to cope with what they're given. The place is understaffed, and the front desk workers were running around in the evening serving drinks and doing room maintenance. Generally, I expect the restaurant at Hyatt House's to have dedicated staff at dinnertime, but here it was just the front desk people. Staff were generally friendly and helpful, if a bit overworked.
Rooms were clean and reasonably designed, if you ignore the dumb motion sensor. The location is right next to a highway, so it's not quiet. There was also some kind of high school travel team staying at the hotel my weekend, and the kids were...
Read moreI had an extremely frustrating experience at the Hyatt in Davis. My expensive, gold earrings went missing after housekeeping serviced my room. I reported this to the front desk, and they informed me that I wouldn't receive an update until the start of the week, which seemed reasonable. However, what followed was anything but. The hotel tried to quickly dismiss the issue by offering me 12,000 points, claiming it was enough for a free stay anywhere in the world with Hyatt. This was simply false—when I attempted to use those points for a stay in San Francisco, the total cost was around 23,000 points, leaving me disappointed and feeling misled. Additionally, Norma, the manager, assured me over the phone last week that additional points would be added to my account as compensation, but once again, this promise has gone unfulfilled. It's now been over a week, and I still haven’t received the points. The lack of follow-through from Milan, the operations manager, and the overall communication has been deeply unsatisfactory. I even took my concerns to social media, which prompted the on-site team to finally react, but it shouldn’t have come to that. While I can buy new earrings, the ones I lost were deeply meaningful to me, and this experience has left a sour taste in my mouth. The hotel has had multiple ownership changes in the past two years, and I truly hope the new management can turn things around. This review isn’t about reimbursement or points; it's about accountability. I encourage others to stay at the other Hyatt in Davis, as they seem to have a better understanding of guest care and...
Read moreOverall the service and everything was fine. I do wish it was made more obvious that there was a $15 security deposit, from that $10 was used to pay for parking and you get $5 back after your stay. The room was very nice, just confusing to get to. If a room ends in 01, you would think it would be first off by the elevator, but instead it was closer by the stairs. Which at that point it was easier to just take tend stairs down instead of walk down the hall to get to the elevator. The light switches wouldn’t turn on as we were coming in, which was annoying since it was already dark out at this point, and it was awkward trying to walk into the room and the lights only came on after we had gotten into the room and shut the door.
Only major problem was no hot water. We tried to shower at 7 AM, no hot water. Left it on for 10 minutes, no change. Tried again at 8:50 AM, still no hot water. Tried again around 10:30, still no hot water. I don’t know if being placed at the end of the hall has any impact on that, we weren’t expecting a lot of traveling at this time so I’m surprised there wasn’t any hot water to shower with
Oh, the mirror screen feature was great, we were able to watch movies on popular streaming services via the wifi and a code connected...
