Update: they are adding to their dimsum menu. And I added a photo of the rib garlic sauce- one of the best items on their menu. A solid Chinese food choice here in less known part in Davis. Nami sushi is a great place in this plaza as well. But this is one of my go-to's for quick Asian food.
Prices have gone up, but the food and portions are still solid here. I like the string bean pork, the wonton noodle soup, and they have some great meat dishes. Their sesame and general chicken is amazing.
But what I wanted to review on today was the roast duck which is ONLY available on Fri/Sat/Sun. It is AMAZING. You get a half duck for $25 and it is done to perfection. You can ask for less fat and oil, and they will try to accommodate, but my entire family loved the duck and this is a 5/5, and something I highly recommend if you enjoy roast duck.
Besides that- they do very well with large orders- just make sure to give them a call ahead of time. Usually at lunch and busy, it isn't too busy so you can get a spot.
The previous owner was the friendly o' lady from 'Hometown' inside the South Davis gas station. She has since retired in left the business to her relatives and friends. Tasty Gourmet survived Covid, so that says something! Be sure to swing by here to support local business, enjoy some good authentic Asian food, and try a roast duck while...
Read moreThis place is one of those rare establishments that when you go, you feel like family. The ladies there are very, very, very sweet. My 8 year old nephew, while eating, said "I love the service here!" My mom, dad, sister and her kids, me and my kids and my husband came for dinner. The sweet ladies served my children, made sure everyone had food on their plates, bribed my littlest to eat so he could have a cookie, and were just too freaking nice. The food, though. Where do I begin? Oh, the shrimp and string beans! My 10 year old son ate the whole thing and we had to grab some quick to get any! He HATES green beans. He kept commenting on how he hates green beans, and he was talking about how good the green beans were until he fell asleep later that night 😅 The duck was perfect. Oh! The bokchoy with mushrooms! I can't even explain how delicious it was. If you don't know what you're in the mood for, or if you don't know what to try, these ladies have some really good recommendations, too. Like the Mongolian beef. Mmmmm. Go ahead and make yourself some new family and give Tasty Gourmet a try. You will not be disappointed. Sorry, no pictures - we...
Read moreHands down the worst Chinese restaurant I've been to anywhere. Worse than even something like a Panda Express (it's not even close). She is pretty nice to you, but only so she can rob you blind. She came to take our order just a couple of minutes after seating when we only had a couple of items in mind then said she'd just bring out a few others. The soup was excessively sweet, and the rest had more than a layer of salt and oil on them. When it came time for the bill, it turns out she brought out the most expensive items on the menu. She then had the audacity to mandate a larger tip when it wasn't listed, and we believe she may have actually marked it twice (I'll have to check my card to see if the amount is higher than expected). We also realized we never even got one of the pricier items after leaving, as the receipt had listed 5 items when we were only brought 4 (math also didn't check out based on 4 items) - they were already closed by the time we got back. As soon as we paid she also just stopped caring at all - she never brought us boxes for the inedibly salty food when she said she would and seemed to...
