What a disappointment! This restaurant has the reputation of being one of the nicer options in Mid-Michigan, but my experience was anything but pleasant. We called ahead for "priority seating" since we had a larger party (12) for the evening. They were pretty good about getting us set up rather quickly once we arrived. That's pretty much where the positives of the trip ended. It took our waitress about 15 minutes to get to our table to take drink orders, which she left in the middle of to go "check on another table". Once she returned, she left again before finishing taking our drink orders to get another table their appetizers. We finally finished ordering our drinks and appetizers and roughly 30 minutes in, we were able to order our entrees. When we were told that they were out of their chicken tortilla soup and were offered their lobster bisque, the caveat was that the lobster bisque would be a rather small serving otherwise they would "have to up-charge us" for a normal sized bowl. Most of the party wanted their food cooked in the kitchen and brought out ready to eat, not raw with their 755° stone (I'll get to that soon). Most of us who wanted the chicken tortilla soup ended up ordering the clam chowder; which we could get a regular bowl of without being up-charged for", only to be brought out the smaller size of. The clam chowder that we received was flavorful, but was just above room temperature in heat. (Luke-warm would be the most accurate theme for this restaurant.) When the entrees arrived (90 minutes after we had been seated) only half of that table who has ordered theirs cooked in the kitchen received their orders already cooked. The rest of the table received their food raw with the "hot stone" to cook on. My first indication that the stones were in fact not 755° was when I put my steak on the stone and it just slightly sizzled, but didn't even create any steam. This was the case with 4 of the 6 stones that were brought out to be cooked on. Two of us were never able to get our shrimp to fully cook through after 30 minutes and our steaks only got a bland, pale gray color to the outside since the stones were not hot enough to seat them. My best guess would be that the stones were 300° at best. My wife's steak that she ordered Medium Rare came out a legitimate Pittsburgh Blue. This thing had been tossed on a hot surface and flipped after 30 seconds tops. So she also had to cook her steak on one of our warm stones that we had. At the end of the meal, the waitress gave an audible groan when we handed her a coupon for a free appetizer, which really was the icing on the cake for me. Overall, the food was decent, but undercooked or ill-prepared to be cooked by the guests. The service was mediocre at best. This was quite possibly the most disappointing restaurant experience I can remember. I would never recommend that anyone go there to eat and have absolutely zero intention of returning. If my food were free, I would still not be willing to go back. My time is too valuable to spend 2-1/2 hours for mid-grade food that I could get at a 7-11 store after...
Read moreLet's jump right into it - my youngest ordered the chicken tacos, but has a gluten allergy. No problem, they put the taco mix into a plate. It was barely enough food for a small child. My middle & oldest ordered the chicken Alfredo. It was a good portion, but the sauce was runny and tasteless. It had a little sprinkle of Parmesan cheese on top, but the chicken was bland and the sauce had no cheesy flavor. They both said they could have made better themselves and in half the time. I had the chicken vegetable stir fry without mushrooms. Mine came with mushrooms. I don't like mushrooms at all. The other veggies were less than a full serving of vegetables. The chicken was less than 4 oz. Since I'm not currently eating rice ( ask me later if you want to know) my " meal" could have fit in the small side salad dish. My husband also got the Stir fry without asparagus. His came with asparagus. So it seems like the kitchen was having some troubles. They also ordered him a side of asparagus. If you knew how much he dislikes asparagus you would crack up when they handed him extra asparagus. So overall the food wasn't great. Sad to say I had to eat some other food to get my portions correct, but on the good side - service was good. So to give you a quick recap: Service - good (we had several people there and they seemed to stay on top of drinks) Atmosphere - the floor is way too slippery! We almost had 3 wipeouts. Sitting kids at high top tables is a bad idea. Food - ok at best ( only the 2 who at appetizers and pasta were full). It was pretty tasteless and boring. Price - over priced for what you get! We walked out paying $120 and still had to finish feeding 3 people who didn't get a full meal. Unfortunately, because it took so long for our food and we had so many mess-ups I didn't get...
Read moreOur visit was off to a good start but sadly went down hill. The booths are not very roomy and not very clean. This place looks like it needs some deep cleaning, especially during this time. The appetizers and drinks were brought in a timely manner and the pretzels were really good.
Then the salad was brought to me. First I noticed a big chip on the plate, which can harbor bacteria. Then I look on another area of the plate and there is dust and hair. Then when I got my replacement salad, the salad was already browning.
It took a while for us to get our food. Our order was very simple, 2 burgers, crab cakes and I got the filet mignon. My meal was supposed to come with fries and I ordered bourbon mushrooms on the side. When I got my steak, the waitress asked if I needed anything else.
I was missing my fries and mushrooms. She then decided to tell me that they didn’t have the bourbon mushrooms and they can replace with sliced mushrooms and I said that’s fine. She brought my fries, but no mushrooms.
Almost finished with my steak, I ended up telling her to cancel as it was apparent she forgot. But when I told her to cancel, she was unapologetic and said, “sure, I can cancel it for you”
Despite, what happened, the steak and fries were delicious. The sauce that came with the steak had no taste- just salty. So I skipped that. I loved cooking my own steak on the black rock.
Got the bill and she left the mushrooms I never got.
After spending over $135 plus tips, for 4, I’m not sure we will be back. I really had high hopes for this restaurant. We are new to the area and hoping this could be a place we...
