Read moreWalked in on a busy mid morning at around 10:45am. A table was cleaned for me and I was seated. It took a little time for a waiter to finally ask for my order, but the food came out timely and delicious. I’ll break things down one by one. The fül, which is essentially a fava bean dish that’s crushed into a mush, is their specialty. It’s actually delicious and hard to find like this. I ordered the hummus with beef chunks, but it looks like I got ground beef instead. I asked for confirmation on if it was beef chunks or ground beef, and I was reassured it was beef chunks. Okay… the tea was excellent and on point. Very delicious flavor. The complimentary veggie sides included pickles, mint, tomato, and onion. The marinated olives were way too salty. All in all, this simple meal cost me about $38, tip included. It’s criminal to charge almost $40 for hummus and fül. In a fair world, this meal would cost $25 at most. But $38? Ridiculously expensive. Finally, after finishing my meal and waiting a while, I had to motion to the cashier to send a waiter to give me the bill. Overall, Altayeb has good food and great portions, but the service was slow and it’s way overpriced. I...
Read moreMy addiction to AlTayeb started when I first moved to Detroit, and years later, it’s still going strong. Even though I live all the way out in Rochester Hills now, it’s become a monthly ritual—because no matter where I am, this place calls me back.
From the moment you walk in, you’re greeted with genuine Arab hospitality—the staff are incredibly welcoming and make you feel right at home, whether it’s your first time or your fiftieth. There’s something comforting and familiar in the way they serve you, and it’s a big part of why I keep coming back.
The food is phenomenal, hands down some of the best Lebanese cuisine you’ll find in Metro Detroit. I have my go-to’s and they never disappoint: • The hummus is smooth, rich, and perfectly seasoned • The foul (fava beans)—earthy and satisfying, just like home • The harhoura (sautéed meat with jalapeños) brings just the right amount of heat and comfort • And of course, the mint tea—don’t leave without it. It’s the perfect end to every meal.
AlTayeb isn’t just a restaurant to me—it’s a place that reminds me of where I started, and why good food and good people will always be worth the trip. Highly...
