This was my Review when I started going to Ricky's in 2013 when I attended HFCC and UofMD while my Father was working at Ford: Best sub shop, hands down. Here is my Review after visiting Ricky's in 2021 after new ownership: I would give this establishment a 1 star, but there is still something in my heart that stops me. Its Ricky, the old owner that treated this sub shop like one of his children, every customer was important. Making sure every customer got the perfect sandwich for a extremely reasonable price. Sadly today (4/16/21) Ricky sub shop is no longer owned by Ricky, but clearly by someone who sees this sub shop as a cash cow not how Ricky treated his sub shop that he opened in the 1980's. The menu has been updated to only have Halal options, getting rid of (in my opinion) one of the best subs that Ricky made "The Italian". Now everything is turkey or mixed with turkey, and sadly I don't like turkey. They have also increased the prices ALOT, I used to get a Full size Italian for less than $10 (in 2015), now (If they had it) it would be $15+tax. I wouldn't mine paying more since what I used to receive in 2015 was well worth it, but now the portions are smaller and the quality is way lower. They have now updated the inside to accommodate more people, but now it seems like I am walking into a cheap chain restaurant with a wall of "social media influencers" , this is not Ricky's Sub Shop. I would rather go to Potbelly or Jimmy Johns at this point, it is that bad. If a Which Wich opened anywhere near Ricky's, Ricky's would go out of business. I really hope that the new management of Ricky's reads this, but I doubt they will do anything since doing it the "old way" would decrease their profitability, it is sad that we have come to this. I will not be returning to Ricky's Sub shop any more, ending a 8 year relationship which as you can tell I am...
Read moreCame for the first time today, after hearing all the hype on the news, and radio! As with most restaurants, I knew there would be a line, so I went online to order, but it wasn't available, I also tried calling- they did not answer. So I decided to drive over from Roseville!! (they said it was the best sub shop in town) as expected there was a line, and a wait, which was understandable. But what was not understandable is that after waiting in line for about 25 minutes when I got up to the window, to place my order for Pastrami and cheese sub, Cheeseburger sub, and Brontosaurus Sub, the young lady told me that the only Subs that they offered at this time were steak and chicken! So we had to settle for a Chubby chicken and Philly steak and cheese Subs. Unfortunately, though the cashier was very pleasant and seemed thorough, my order was still made incorrectly. I found that out when we were blocks away, when my daughter began eating her sub! And knowing that there was no way of contacting them other than driving back over there, we had to go with what we were given, regrettably. In my opinion the philly steak and cheese subs are...sub-par, and overrated, they lacked flavor and were dry. My husband had the Chubby Chicken sub, he said it was good. We took a bit of a drive to get to Ricky's, and it would have been helpful if they could have put on their telephones answering service that they weren't offering their full Sub menu, or even posting a sign on their door! Heck! they could have even made an announcement over their loud speaker in the restaurant! I don't like the idea of being baited! Once you get to the counter and find out you only have few options, you're already vested, then you feel like you're not going to leave empty-handed after putting in so much time. Kind of felt duped, definitely...
Read moreMy visit to Ricky’s subs shop was a complete and utter nightmare. This place is an abomination and should be avoided at all costs.
From the moment I stepped in, I was hit by a stench so foul it made me gag. The place looked like a war zone: trash littered the floor, tables were coated in grime, and the whole establishment seemed like it hadn't seen a cleaning crew in years.
The service was beyond atrocious. The staff was not only incompetent but also shockingly rude. They ignored me for what felt like an eternity, and when they finally deigned to take my order, they were dismissive and condescending. To add insult to injury, they got my order wrong, and when I pointed it out, they acted like it was my fault.
Now, the food. Calling it "food" is an insult to actual food. The bread was so stale it could have doubled as a weapon. The meat was slimy and reeked of decay – I wouldn't be surprised if it was several weeks old. The vegetables were brown, wilted, and had a putrid odor. The so-called "sauce" was a revolting, watery mixture that looked and tasted like it had gone bad ages ago. I took one bite and nearly vomited.
To make matters even worse, the drink machine was broken, the ice machine was filled with black mold, and the restroom was a biohazard zone. It was as if this place was designed to be as disgusting and unwelcoming as possible.
I can't stress this enough: avoid Ricky’s subs shoplike the plague. It is a filthy, revolting, health hazard masquerading as a restaurant. I wouldn't eat here again if it was the last place on Earth. Save yourself the horror and go...
