My husband wanting to give me a break from the kitchen decided to take me to brunch ,we went downtown Decatur where there were a few restaurants but they weren't open so we decide to go to this place Kimmie's Kitchen The ambience was nice and staff seems friendly. Our waitress came took our drink order which was coffee we've been sitting there about 10 minutes after being seated so we had a chance to look over the menu so I told her we'd just order our food as well . My husband order grits and shrimp and I got the stuffed French toast hold the powdered sugar. Our coffee came and we were just sitting there vibeing to the music . I'd asked her to leave a menu so we were checking it out and got excited because they had jerk chicken among other things that we liked. We got our server over and ordered some food to go . After a refill on coffee our food came my husband's was OK but mine was missing the strawberries and cream cheese which it was supposed to be stuffed with i politely inquire if this is the stuff French toast to which her response was she thought when I said hold the powdered sugar I meant I didn't want anything on it to which I replied only the powdered sugar. I don't know how hold the powdered sugar meant nothing on it. She took it back to be remade and it took so long I was over it I asked for a togo box and the check and cancel the togo order I was so done because the strawberries were missing on the French toast the order was still not complete. No apologies was offered she acted like I was the one who mess the order up. But I know one thing y'all ain't got worry about us...
Read moreI wanna start this off by saying the staff was very friendly and the place was clean. None of the food tasted BAD but I have a couple of things to say about it. They were out of their ribs and catfish so I ordered the chopped steak with mashed potatoes and cabbage with a side of "cuban style black beans". Firstly, im disappointed because the black beans weren't any style nor hot. Its like they took them out of the can, barely heated them up, then served them. The mashed potatoes were dry and bland like they boiled and mashed the potatoes, added half a table spoon of butter, 4 granules of salt and 5 pieces of pepper. Onto the cabbage. Boy was I disappointed as my favorite food ever is cajun fried cabbage. Undercooked. Soooo crunchy like I was biting it from the source. Not necessarily a bad thing for some but it wasnt even hot and it was over seasoned to the point where I had to drink my tea after every bite. Now the chopped steak. Didn't taste bad but was VERY tough and chewy from being overcooked...but at least ot was hot? Lol as the only customer in the whole restaurant (not exaggerating, i was literally the only one there for lunch time), I didnt expect to wait 40ish mins for my food... after all that, the sweet tea was very good.
Maybe this was just a bad day for them but hopefully in the future they will redeem themselves if I ever...

After looking at reviews and photos I knew I was ordering the salmon with cabbage and rice. Salmon was seasoned perfectly, had a nice crispy char on the outside while the fish was moist and tender. Only thing that could have made it better was another piece! The cabbage was soft and flavorful, but not overly seasoned, nice comfort cooking style. The rice was perfectly cooked, had hints of I believe saffron and maybe liquid smoke(?) whatever it was the rice really stood out my only complaint would be there wasnât enough.
My wife had the grilled shrimp with sauce and she was very happy, they were cleaned, cooked well, and she really enjoyed the sauce. She had the same two sides and also said a bit more rice would have been nice.
For desert we had their deep fried cheese cake, itâs almost like a cannoli and cheesecake had a baby that was deep fried. The dough was softer than cannoli but the apple drizzle paired very well with the dessert.
We plan to return, but it will be hard to order anything other than that salmon!
Great location across, right across the street from...
