Went there tonight because I had a craving for their French onion soup. I had it a few times before and it was fantastic. But not tonight...i was Parr of a party of three and we waited over 5 minutes to be told we could sit anywhere by the bar staff. I wasn't busy at all two tables were finishing up but the bar had about 16 people sitting around drinking and telling rude jokes. Definitely not appropriate for a kid to be around. Thank God I heard it and my kid didn't. That should have been the first flag. We sat and proceeded to look through the menu. We ordered a pepperoni pizza, a bowl of French onion soup, and a kids chicken tender meal with three cokes. The waitress took forever to get yo us. Weird...right??? Since it wasn't at all busy. Flag 2. The after about 25 minutes we recieved our meal. 1 word horrid..... the only person that wS fine was my kid. The soda tasted like carbonated water. Totally disgusting. My soup had pumpernickel bread which was a first and gave the soup a very horrible taste and the puzza tasted stale. When you go out to dinner only once in a blue moon your better off just sticking with your gut. I should have b-lined it out the door. But this restaurant is known to have good food. They let it slip big time for me tonight. Finally while waiting for the check not to mention I had to flag the waitress down while she was busy talking to one of the regular drunks at the bar 15 minutes later I get the check and ask for boxes to pack the chicken tenders she finally decided to check in with us. Yea thanks but the good sucked and so didn't your service....
Read moreOn 4/3 I ordered take out and asked for 3 steak tip Caesar salads and a midway sampler at 4:30 pm I picked up my order at 5:00 and had a glass of wine at the bar while waiting at 5:00 pm. I brought my order home for my family at about 5:30 pm. I noticed at 6:00 pm after I walked my dog and got settled that my order was incorrect. I thought I was missing the midway sampler so I called and they put me on hold come to find out I was missing the steak tip salad which I realized after they picked up after having me on hold. He completely dismissed me the owner who I called back an would only give me a first name “Fred” and said he could not give me the last name. He told me he put the bag together and it was correct and I’m going back and fourth on my order when I was just reading what was on the packaging. And I was at the bar a cook had brought the order out to me personally. He dismissed me again and hung up on me. Completely unprofessional I worked as a waitress for 8 years and was taught the customer “was always right” and to show hospitality and now I’m a nurse of 8 years I don’t need anything free which is what I told him. We give them a lot of business as well as all my family and friends. And this is truly disappointing and disrespectful to be hung up on and tell me quote on quote “that I am lying”. I honestly wouldn’t recommend this restaurant that has been around a long time to anyone. After working two full time jobs I don’t need this I am truly disappointed and as I told the manager “Fred” I am not one...
Read moreDespite having driven by it hundreds of times, we’d never gone in. Finally we did with another couple and our only regret was that we should’ve started coming here years ago. What a step back in time— nothing fancy here about the decor—felt like we were transported to our childhood in the 60s and 70s. Lots of laughter at the huge bar where everyone’s a regular, the smell of charbroiled meat and brown gravy in the air and the sound of a man singing Sinatra, smiling at all the regulars making his way around the bar. What a great, great scene— old Boston at its best. We were lucky to have Donna, the owner, as our server. She was attentive, friendly and passionate, guiding us through the expansive menu. Every server out there, especially the smug ones at those fancy places- yeah, you know who you are- should be required to spend time learning the trade from Donna. A+ to her and the whole staff. Now the food: all the basics are here: burgers, steak tips, pizza, chopped sirloin, swordfish and the execution is spot on and the portions are more than adequate. We had the pork chop and burgers and all were delicious. Based on our unapologetic snooping at the other tables, it was obvious that everything looks and probably tastes as delicious. If you are looking for great service, delicious food cooked with pride that’s is fairly priced and a comfortable, welcoming atmosphere then make your to The Midway. We loved it and will be...
