The Grateful Dedham Diner — Restaurant in Dedham

My kids ordered the short stack of pancakes that do not come with any sides for $10.95. They also ordered home fries and bacon for $4.50 and $3.75 for a total of $19.25. I didn't look at the menu closely when ordering and didn't realize that the pancakes didn't come with the sides for that price and that they were add ons. When the bill came I thought it was expensive so I looked at the menu again to see that they were charging for these individually. If we had ordered the "Big Rig" breakfast it came with a short stack of pancakes, bacon and sausage, 2 eggs and toast for $14.25. When I asked our server about the price difference she didn't understand what I was talking about. When I explained it to the manager she told me I should have ordered the "Big Rig" and there was nothing she could do. I then asked her to charge me for 2 "Big Rigs" instead of the short stack, home fries and bacon, this would save me $10.00 but she said she couldn't do that. Then the suggested tip rate on the bill includes the total including the tax. I guess some people may not notice that the owners are intentionally overcharging the customers but I will never go back to a business that plays the "gotcha game" and makes you scrutinize all the prices to make sure you don't get taken for a ride. I ate her before & everything was fine. Chose to return today Noontime for breakfast & had this been my 1st trip here I wouldn't have returned. My young waitress so was forgetful, She apologized on 2 separate times for basics 1. Waiting a while for table for one, then after being seated Maybe 15 minutes went by before returning, the host had to tell her then after being seated another maybe 12 minutes to take my order After order taken and food delivered maybe another 15 minutes (and while asking another waitress to bring me water), main waitress returned to ask if I needed anything (again totally forgetting I ask for water a while ago) Yes I'm still waiting on that water, then maybe another 7 minutes later the 2nd waitress that I ask for water finally sent hostess over with it. The place was busy for a Saturday but not overflowing packed. Unfortunately disappointed for the service & Won't be returning! Went for lunch on a Saturday around noon as a group of two. The restaurant was about half full inside and out and the hostess seated us pretty quickly. She brought us drinks and menus but from this point forward we were completely ignored. We couldnt even get the attention of a server to ask if something was going on causing a delay. They would walk right past us to other tables and seemed like they were understaffed. We tried to be patient and understanding but it started to feel a little like a prank or something. That being said after about 20 minutes we were fed up and left. My wife had time to go next door and get change so we could leave cash for the drinks and go while I waited and still no interaction with any service staff whatsoever. Not sure if they are badly understaffed or the staff working were particularly inattentive but either way the whole thing was disappointing. We'd heard such good things but after this bizarre experience we wont be back or be recommending...
