TL:DR: I do Not recommend this place due to poor quality food and even worse customer service. Avoid…Plenty of other great Mediterranean places around.
—— This used to be our go to place for dinner with the family as we love to support family owned businesses. The food a year ago was way better and the service was so nice and sweet and accommodating. Over the years this establishment has deteriorated.
We were excited to eat here one evening and arrived to a half empty restaurant on a Saturday night and chose to sit outside. My brother and I arrived first and waited for our mother to arrive. We sat down and noticed our table was dim lit because of a big umbrella open and kindly asked to be moved to a table nearby. Our server, a bearded bald man, said grumpily “I have to go inside and see if we are expecting anyone first” he came back and said they were and we weren’t able to move to any other table. Meanwhile the place remained half empty and the table we wanted remained unoccupied the remainder of our stay.
While waiting for our third guest we were hungry and decided to put in an appetizer of our favorite falafel, some drinks and a water with no ice.
My glass of wine arrives after a couple minutes.
After a few minutes the falafel came and after tasting it, we realized this isn’t the falafel they normally serve. It’s hard flaky, devoid of flavor and stale. We thought perhaps some tahini would make it easier to go down so we requested this from the server. We wait unable to eat the remaining 2 falafel as they didn’t taste good at all for the tahini to arrive. Meanwhile, I did not get the water with no ice and had to flag someone else to get it for me as our server was not around.
We wait 10 mins until we decided to flag him down finally and remind him. Please keep in mind the restaurant is not busy tonight. He said oh! And goes to the kitchen for a few minutes and brings out the tahini. At this point, our falafel gets cold and we dont like it anyways so we kindly tell him and he says unfortunately there is nothing we can do because you ate 2 of them. We kindly explain to him that we were hungry and waiting for you and they were not good and you took long to get the tahini. He again replies sorry but we cant do anything because you at 2 of the 4 already. I kindly ask him to then charge us for the 2 and make another batch for us. And he says we cannot do that because this is the falafel we always make. So my brother says thanks we’ll get the check please.
The check comes out and he charges us for everything including the tahini. We did not touch the tahini. My brother goes inside and tries to speak with the owner who used to be nice and understanding and says you come to eat not to worry about the time, dismisses us and tells the server to just charge me for my wine ($13) which I only drank half of. We give them $15 cash and left. And I wish I didnt give them anything because I left with such a bitter taste in my mouth.
The server was so rude! Was not friendly or open or welcoming did not take care of his guests and the owner doesnt have a clue about how to resolve customer service issues and now I will never go back or recommend that place again. It’s a pitty, oliv pitty because you used to be great and now they will continue to loose valuable reliable customers until they work on improving their food and their attitude. My brother works in the food industry and is a generous customer and tipper and knows how hard it can be to be a server and really cuts people slack and he even was upset about the whole ordeal. Im a foodie and love family owned restaurants and would rave about this place but unfortunately they do not deserve such...
Read moreWe recently re-visited Oliv Pit for my mom's birthday and it was an absolute disappointment. Due to the pandemic, everyone in our party of 9 strives to support local business and to be as patient/understanding as possible, but it was beyond unacceptable. To start, we ordered a few appetizers but the calamari was bland, dry, cold, and maybe 6 pieces total. When we mentioned it to the server, he apologized and said "It was our last few pieces, so I'll just not charge you for it." So, they served us scraps. The server was overwhelmed (I believe he was the only server for their 8 total tables), but we made reservations a few days before for a Saturday evening, so the restaurant definitely had time to prepare. We had to continuously request new drinks, as the server never once checked to see how we were doing or if we needed anything. My husband, father, and brother all had to open their own beer bottles, as he did not have an opener--he handed them to us & left the bottles on the table for the entirety of the evening. Our empty plates remained on the table until we stacked them and handed them to the server specifically. An hour after we ordered our entrees, only 7 of 9 meals came out. We waited a few minutes before asking what happened to the other 2, as the server provided no explanation. Not sure if the orders were never put in or what, but it took an additional 45 minutes for their meals to come out. The kitchen staff (a female cook in particular) and one additional staff member (a busser? food runner? unsure) were incredibly rude when we expressed our dissatisfaction. That cook actually said to us "Well, it's only 2 items, why didn't you just start eating without them?" and she also argued with a member of our party. At the end of a nearly 3 hour ordeal (which should've been 2 hours tops), the server offered us a discount for the inconvenience and he was the ONLY one to apologize for our experience. No other apology or solution was offered by anyone to whom we spoke. He is the reason I am giving more than one star. We've been to Oliv Pit multiple times in the past and the food and experience are usually better, which is why we chose them for a special dinner. Wildly...
Read moreWe went last week my wife and I to the Olive pit. We chose that place because of the Google reviews of 4.4 stars. Right away when you get in I have to say that I was pretty impressed with the decor. It looks very good they did a good job, it’s clean, and still looks new and the waiter told me they’ve been open for about 2 1/2 years now. I was pretty excited that hopefully I had found a good Greek restaurant. My review is changing because I feel like the quality of the food is more important than the decor. I have to say that the pita bread they give you with the olive oil and coarse salt was probably the best of the entire meal. We ordered the meatballs, zucchini croquettes, the steak wrap sandwich, and grilled chicken. Maybe we made the wrong choices, maybe we should have ordered the more expensive entrées, however their price list was not really attracting to me the way it was described. The chicken was not marinated and was basically just grilled, it had no specific flavors, the meatballs were a little better, the steak in the wrap had no flavor and was borderline cold. The zucchini croquettes were kind of soggy. They also put fries directly in the wrap which makes them soggy and that isn’t great. For those reasons my review has to come to a two star. Again maybe it was the wrong meal choices but I feel if you cannot make grilled chicken properly and a steak pita sandwich properly in a Greek restaurant, the rest of your menu must not be very good either. This place has a lot of potential just by the way it looks inside however they do not deliver with food quality, we could’ve spent half the price in a Greek diner unfortunately. I do not mind paying more for my food but it...
