I had a deeply disturbing experience at this restaurant about a week ago. My server, Melissa, made blatantly racist remarks — including muttering under her breath that “Blacks don’t tip.” I was stunned. I had to flag down the manager just to get water because she completely ignored me.
To be treated with such disrespect, not only as a paying customer but as a Black man was shocking and completely unacceptable. This server didn’t know anything about me, and yet made degrading assumptions based solely on my race.
I sincerely hope this restaurant does not share her values. I will not be returning, and I intend to use my platform and considerable resources to make sure this is brought to the public’s attention.
I urge the owners and management to launch a real investigation into this incident and take meaningful action. If not, the public will.
Racism has no place in any business. Period.
UPDATE:Thank you for your response and for the update on the situation. I’m glad to hear that an investigation is underway, it’s both necessary and comforting to know that this matter is being taken seriously. In respect of that process, I will allow the time needed for a thorough and honest review. That said, I do intend to return to the restaurant in the near future, accompanied by representatives from the NAACP, to observe whether the dining experience reflects the values your response suggests. If I or anyone with me encounters the same level of disregard and hostility that I experienced previously, I want to be clear that I’ve since learned of several actions available to me, and I will not hesitate to take them and do so very publicly. Again, thank you for your reply, and for acknowledging the seriousness...
Read moreReasonably priced breakfast restaurant with many options. I'm very picky about my breakfast- and I'm very lucky if I'm able to enjoy a breakfast prepared for me at a sit down restaurant maybe thrice a year- Usually a treat for my birthday or when traveling. Found Brunch Cafe while picking something up in Deerfield, very glad I stopped. Very highbrow snobby area but staff is very down to earth. Had the pleasure of having Faith K. as my waitress and would definitely come back for her fantastic service alone. Restuarant is quite clean and mellow- no over the top gaudy paint colors. Had the country fried steak which was delicious, slighty smaller than hoped and a little over cooked. Scrambled eggs were on point, nice and fluffy. Hashbrowns were requested well done and I recieved as such. Greek toast is reasonably sized. Coffee was very bitter and thats saying a lot because I only drink my coffee black- Unfortunately l had to add creamer to make it go down. Water was by request as was Tabasco. Butter, creamer, sugar and jelly were available on the table. Place was 80% full on a Friday at Noon. Total was $22.89 for one person, coffee and plate of country fried steak. Would go again if...
Read moreI know this place is potentially able to offer up an excellent meal. I have been to another location and it was excellent but our experience, on this particular day, at this time, was pretty 1 star as a whole. Party of 2. Seated immediately. It took 23 for me to get antsy enough to flag someone down for service. We asked for coffee and ordered. I had to flag someone down again to get our 2 coffees. Some people may prefer their mayo to meat ratio different than I I like more meat and sauce to enhance the the flavors not to fill the bread space with mayo to cover up the lack of the amount of meat. The " homemade potato chips" Less than half of both our chips were thin and crip. We had dig for them. The majority were thick. Unfortunately those were dry and inedible; hard and thick as cardboard and a similar flavor. Maybe after 1pm if after lunch ruch on a Tuesday but I feel we were served kitchen scraps when they got around to it. No shortage of cheerful attitude. I'm sure they aren't used serving this quality of meal, otherwise, they probably wouldn't still be open. My guest lives in town. She has no interest in returning for such a hit or miss...
