Use to be great back in the day. Now most of the games are broken. Employees look like they hate being there. Basically never get new games so since I went there once after 4 years there were 1-2 new games in the main section, but of course 4-5 new games in the redemption section. The place super needs an uplift with its very dated decor.
Redeeming is their soda. Never tried their food, but for some reason their soda is top notch.
Update 1: Just came back after being gone for 7 months. My favorite game is STILL BROKEN WITH THE SAME PROBLEMS! Not only that there are even more games busted just sitting out in the open. The redemption side looks fine though. I had a hard time coming back this time, but never again.
8/7/18 - Be careful about going to their website now as it has malware. They would know this if anyone who worked there EVER went to their own website or hired someone to take care of it.
11/17/23 - Heard they finally re-opened as Xtreme and had to go check it out. They removed a ton of games and replaced mostly with redemption games. They also made it so you use a card now which is convenient BUT the prices are much more expensive compared to before. I think prices needed to come up to properly compensate the workers and you know actually fix the games regularly but it feels like it needs to be balanced and is still too high especially for the awful game selection. When I talked with one of the owners as I was potentially interested in buying 1 of their decommissioned games in their side area (that I hope they get up and running with an extended selection of games) and they told me they are still deciding which games to bring over and which to sell. Sincerely hoping this improves in the near future as the closest and I think only arcade in my area. For those who care (Which aren't many) in terms of Covid protection since it's a very serious illness. I noticed hand sanitizer stations which is very minorly nice for hopefully keeping machines clean, but does pretty much nothing for covid since fomite transmission is extremely rare. Would prefer to see air purifiers around and masking. Will check back in a month and remember to...
Read moreNew redesign is really nice, very spacious, clean as hell, nice and lit up, no entry fee anymore, newer games use card swiping system. They still have their "Free Play" machines but those cost nickels now. There's a nickel change machine located in the center. I'd recommend bringing some cash to use these.
Has a nice a mix of modern and old games, though they don't have a decent chunk of their older games out anymore with the redesign. I see a lot of reviews complaining about the price increase. Yeah, the games are a bit more expensive but everything is getting more expensive these days and it was a blessing the original nickel city stayed as cheap as it did for as long as it did. Almost everything comes out to at most $1 per swipe. This is still a LOT cheaper than going to your local Dave N Busters, Round1, or Main Event and everything seemed MORE than reasonable for the pricing.
Has a new StepmaniaX Deluxe Cab, not connected online. It's updated from time to time but usually behind 1-2 updates at least. Pads feel great, 2 songs a swipe, $1 or less a swipe. Great place to play SMX specifically.
Nippon Marathon Turbo & Fight of the Gods running on an EXA cab. It's the only 2 games on the cab.
DDR Cab running ITG is back out, converted to use a traditional card system for payment. Costs roughly .60¢-.70¢ a swipe. Seems like every pack except official DDR and official ITG packs were removed and it was dropped to 2 songs/a swipe. Kinda a bummer. Pads feel plenty sensitive, they are not flush panels, mostly flush screws, timing is a bit weird. Still a fun cab to play on and still maintained regularly.
Would recommend...
Read moreIf your use to the old nickel city don't go here. We thought it would be the same as their website said after their remodel notice on their webpage they change it to say once remodeling was done that they still accept nickels for their business model. They have removed half if not more than half of the games inside the business. None of the games that made it a great destination before we're there. They had 3 skeeball machines of the 6 that were there before. Their was 8 of the used to be 20s of free to play games. This would have been okay if they made this clear on their on website that their business practice has changed. Every game is between 10-20 credits $10 will get you 200 credits. Again it looks super empty and theirs basically nothing to play. Me and my family use to here for hours and have a lot of fun. I guess it's the end of an era. But I get it with times changing and inflation I understand but they have to be pretty scummy management to not state any business practices have changed and no pictures of the new place. They changed their site back to the old saying remodeling was done and that nickels were still accepted even though they new well that that was not the case. It looks the same with remodel just different floors and layout but empty. Literally no good games. So if you liked the old nickel city you won't like the new one....
