Benny's Cafe - Del Rio, Tx — Restaurant in Del Rio

I found this place on google, my family and I were visiting del Rio and thought we would try something local instead of your regular ihop etc. We walk in and are not greeted by anyone, not a big deal, we proceed to find an empty booth and sit. We wait for about 15 minutes before our server comes and takes our order. We figured it’s a small diner so they take a little longer for the service, again no big deal. We get our food. We notice an older gentleman is walking and checking in on all the tables and asking them how’s everything tasting and if they need anything. He’s approaching our table and just looks at us and proceeds to the next table and ask them how’s everything tasting and if they need anything. My wife and I look at each other and thought that was kinda weird, why did he skip us over. We just laugh about it and continue to eat. We noticed a family walk in and are immediately approached and greeted, then they proceed to walk them over to their seats and take their order right away. Again my wife and I stare at each other and kinda are questioning things at this point. We noticed a lady was sitting at the bar top, we thought she was a customer as she wasn’t wearing any uniform or anything. This same lady saw us walk in and sit down and saw us look around waiting for our server or anyone to come assists us, she never said a word to us the entire time. Turns out she is an employee of the restaurant, she quickly checked up on the family that walked in after us and apologized to them for any delays in service and explained that she will try to get their food as fast as possible. I don’t want to play the race card but the common denominator here was that the other customers were white and my wife, daughter and myself are Mexicans. I find it hard to believe because all of the employees were Mexicans. I have never written a review In my life, I have had bad service at other places and I just brush it off and never return but for them to make not only my self but my family feel discriminated? Yeah I had to write a review. I really do hope this was just a one off incident and they are truly not racist against their own kind. Anyone visiting this place, be warned. We just finished eating here on Christmas Eve. The food was good and the waitress was nice. However we found two or three pieces of what appears to be a piece of laminate counter top or ceramic in our beans. We understand that things happen and just wanted to bring it up to the owner. When we brought it up she was just surly and didn’t think it was an issue. She also rolled her eyes and shrugged her shoulders. If I was an owner of a food establishment I’d try to find the source of contamination to fix for future customers. We also found a cockroach near the children’s toys. Don’t eat here unless you want to eat chips of foreign substances with cockroaches. We won’t be back based on how the situation was handled by the owner. Very poor customer service: Brought my mom for the first time so she could have a nice breakfast. We could have just stopped by ihop but I choose to support local businesses as much as possible, especially a place thats losing popularity such as this one. I walked in and immediately saw the manager or possibly the owner throw her head back and roll her eyes. Sat down, she had poor attitude and when we asked her to move a dirty plate so we could have room to eat, she rudely said we could just move seats. We were tempted to leave right then and there but that would've been rude so we stayed through the meal.
