Franco's Pizza & Pasta — Restaurant in Delaware

First let me say we have been loyal customers of this restaurant for 15 years. This was the worst experience we have ever had here and to make it worse, the staff made it seem like we were being unreasonable.

When we arrived at the restaurant, there were several empty tables and no customers waiting at the counter. We were told to sit anywhere and were asked about drinks shortly after sitting down. After receiving our waters, the staff did not return to our table for the order until we stopped someone 15 minutes later. At this point, we ordered a calzone to share and 2 glasses of wine. The wine was delivered to the table and we waited another 30 minutes before we asked about the food. The waitress returned and said the order would be another 10 minutes. We asked why so long and she said they were busy. We reminded her that they forgot to take our order and asked them to expedite the ticket. She repeated that they were busy and the pizzas were backed up. Over 15 minutes later, our order was quickly dropped at the table with no communication from the server. After this, we did not have any contact from any of the staff again until at least 10 minutes after we had finished our order. Our wine was empty and the water needed refilling. I’m sorry to say it but I didn’t like the food here or the service. First, I saw unsanitary practices where the girl at the counter was digging around in the basil container and putting it on the pizzas/cutting the pizzas and then going back to touching cash and the phone. Why was the cook not doing this?

The girl at the counter told us on the phone when we called to order pick up, that it would be 20 mins. 20 mins later, we arrived to pick up our order. We ended up waiting 30 mins in the lobby for our food after that. During which, the girl at the counter talked to another girl and ignored us the whole time giving us no updates.

My food came out when we first got there and sat out on the counter getting cold/old for 30 mins while my husbands pizza cooked for 30 mins. The food was over priced for what we got, it was $50 for a medium pizza and a plate of pasta. My fettuccine with shrimp and oil was like a soup (literally it was swimming in oil and water) and tasted like water and garlic. Also, Italian pasta should NEVER have old bay on it.

I was not expecting the best pasta dish I’ve ever had . For 81 years I’ve only ordered and eaten plain old pasta and meat sauce. Trying to be cute I said , “ I’m going out of my comfort zone “ ! I ordered , much to my daughter’s surprise, Shrimp and mushroom pasta and they even had Angel hair pasta. Our waitress was outstanding. She recommended a dish to my son in law , manicotti…a hit and my daughter eggplant Parmesan came with a huge bowl of Angel hair and red sauce. My dish came and I was in love with the actual dish, then the pasta , four huge shrimp 🍤 but also , all through smaller shrimp all done perfectly and lots of fresh mushrooms. However , the sauce , the sauce is perfect., I have an Italian side in our family but this sauce, I swear is the best. Large portions of everything. Including delicious salad and excellent bread and dipping sauce. If you are heading to the beaches from the North , do yourself a favor , stop here. Carry out previously I had an order of meatballs , awesome! Their pizza is thin and even better than my favorite pizza in Baltimore.
