I have been here about 10 times in the past and even ordered some catered platters for a party at my house about 3 years ago. I enjoy the food and I like to support small businesses. Today was different and I will never give them another penny of my money. I was on a video call with my fiance who is from the Philippines and has never had Indian food before. I was excited to show her what the food looked like and told her I would be taking her to this restaurant. There were 4 other customers in the restaurant at this time. The extremely rude woman at the register shouted at me "You can't show that video! No photos or video allowed! You can't show that!" Right in front of the customers. Even though it was extremely rude and unexpected, I maintained my composure and informed the rude lady that I was on a video call with my fiance. She stopped yelling but did not apologize. 1. A business has the right to refuse service to anyone, but should have signs posted if they have such asinine and idiotic rules. 2. I'm very glad that she nor anyone from the back attempted to grab my phone or walk up to me with their bad attitudes, or else we would have had other problems. Look at the reviews here, that old rude lady at the front register is the main reason that this place has low reviews. I will NEVER be back. My recommendation is for them to replace the disrespectful lady at the front with someone that understands how to treat customers and has common courtesy. The business should post signs if they don't want anyone to take photos or do videos. Many content creators/food bloggers do that regularly and it brings positive exposure to a restaurant. This restaurant must not be very confident in their food and/or cleanliness. For any potential customers, I encourage you to avoid this restaurant like I will from now on. But... if you do go there, make sure to video and photograph the food as much as possible so you can experience the polite...
Read moreFinally Denton has another Indian restaurant! Since the fall of Rasoi's, Bawarchi has been the only place you could go for Indian food. Compared to them this place is fantastic.
So far we have only tried the lunch buffet. The service was great and the food was even better. I especially enjoyed their vegetable pakora with chutney, as well as the butter chicken. I'm not sure why another reviewer complained about the naan bread, as we had it fresh after it was made and it tasted just fine.
I would say the only off-putting part was that there was no background music or TV while we ate, and I expected there to be more inside decoration; there's really only a few small pictures on the walls. Because we came at 11 when they opened, it was still a little empty, and with no background noise it felt a little awkward. Maybe they put music on later, which is possible as we got there pretty early. I'm still giving this place five stars because of the excellent food and service!
All in all, I hope Sangam sticks around, and maybe makes the inside of their restaurant a little more lively - Denton really needs another Indian restaurant, as Bawarchi has been a disappointment for some time. We're hoping to go again during non-buffet hours and see what the portions like, here's hoping it's...
Read moreChecked this place out the week it opened. They were obviously a little overwhelmed and trying to keep up with the rush, but everyone was super nice. It was a little unclear whether the buffet is always be open or what, when we got there we thought that was our only option (didn't see menus). No biggie, buffet was awesome with lots of vegetarian and vegan options. The ... Masala with peas (I forget the name) was BOMB and the tofu in it was so good I actually thought it was chicken and freaked for a second. For two buffets it was 21$, which is totally reasonable in my opinion.
Definitely, definitely check this place out. :)
Update: Went again and ordered off the menu. We go the Aloo mattar and aloo gobi as entrees. One was peas and potatoes in a sauce, one was potatoes, cauliflower and tomatoes. They were both fantastic. Like I could have eaten until I exploded. We also got the vegetable samosas and the mixed veggie pakora. I had never had pakora before, it's like veggies in a chickpea batter, deep fried. Totally amazing.
This place is way way way better than Bawarchi.
I do wish there were descriptions on the menu. I wound up just googling everything, but hey, there's...
