This used to be my favorite hangout in denton. Until I met the horrid manager. I was with 2 young friends who were waiting for a train. I think she assumed they were unhoused because of luggage. Right next to the train station, people! Anyway, before we could even get settled, she came into the couch room and announced that if we were having a meeting there, we needed to pay a fee. No, we were just 3 friends. Then she announces that we can't stay if we don't order drinks. So I asked in that case, "Did you bring us menus?" We hadn't even had time to go up to the bar! She said, "No. I don't bring people menus. I told her that we planned to buy drinks, and she backed off, but she watched us to make sure we ordered. I was sooooo offended. I have never been treated so shabbily in a denton establishment! We drank about half our drinks and bailed. If anyone can tell me what her hours are, I will go when she's not there. The boula tenders are all awesome! Otherwise, they have lost my business, the business of my many friends who patronize this establishment, and they will not be getting any meeting venue money from us either. Even if my friends who were with me that day were unhoused, why not approach with kindness? They were doing no harm....
Read moreComing from out of town I was looking for a coffee shop. Probably better options in the area but this had high reviews and had parking within a block. Parking in the area in general is bad. Now admittedly, for some reason I read “Kava” and thought they meant coffee. It definitely does not 🙅♂️. Prices were fair but don’t make the same mistake if you’re looking for a good coffee. No self-respecting place that sells coffee should ever say they don’t have milk or cream because they’re vegan. Their options were Oatmilk, which is not even milk at all… its nothing but blended oils. They also had Coconut milk (I opted for), and some other blended oil they called “milk”. Then they have only alternative sugar.. just stevia, which is disgusting. Ya know, real sugar comes from a plant too 😉 The drink itself I’d group with the low/low mid coffees I’ve had. I’m an avid coffee drinker who tries many brands and places anywhere I travel. Bitter from first sip, off texture as well likely due to the “milk” and a terrible after taste due to the stevia. I’m sure the place is great if you’re not looking for a true coffee experience (they sell actual KAVA drinks/products and have live music) but if good ole roasted hot coffee is your goal,...
Read moreThis was my favorite spot in Denton for over a year. I've brought my co workers, friends, and dates in to try the magnificent Kava. I even bought into the growler program bc I found so many wonderful benefits with Kava use.
However, due to the adoption of an "Order or Leave" policy they are enforcing, I will no longer support their business.
Denton is a college town. The square and fry street promote congregation. I support fair and equal congregation.
It is not fair or equal the way the miniature signs with fine print are placed inside. Because, not everyone can read them. So, when you are asked to order or leave...it then becomes offensive after being inside less than 15 to 20 minutes .
Support businesses that reflect the true homage of Denton as a college town where people can congregate without...
