Last weekend we ordered takeout from Chook Chicken (Pearl St. location). Think: environmentally-conscience bourgeois ‘Boston Market’ roasted chicken. Technically it is charcoal-cooked chook (Australian for chicken). There is another location at 8th/Birch near Rose Medical Center and soon to be one at the Stanley Marketplace in Aurora. The developers founded big names in Denver such as Snooze Eatery, Fruition and Mercantile. We ordered the whole-chicken meal “Chook for Four” for $50. It came with three sides, one large salad and two dipping sauces. Yes, it would have fed four people, but we had nice leftovers. For sides, we chose the smashed cucumbers (light cucumber and red onion salad), Chook wedges (great fried potato fingers), and the mac & cheese (honestly pretty bland shells and cheese). The large cobb salad had boiled eggs and blue cheese and came with two dressings on the side (raspberry vinaigrette and a garlic cream.) The dipping sauces we chose were the Big A’s BBQ (excellent home-made tangy flavor) and mum’s gravy (which was unfortunately disappointingly tasteless). The chicken was exceptionally moist, and the flavor had a little heat that went all the way through the meat. We suspect that they brined the chicken. The company cares a great deal about sustainability. You can tell this from the freshness of their ingredients and every single item of the packaging was compostable! The location on Pearl has a nice parking lot in the back. If you call the restaurant when you arrive, they will bring the food out to you.

Omg this place is amazing. This review is meant for my Celiac family. The menu online offered a lot of GF options. So, I decided to go to the restaurant to ask about their safety protocols. The person at the register explained that they have a full allergy protocol that includes using separate equipment: cutting boards, knives, gloves, etc. (She was unbelievably friendly and knowledgeable). I ordered the chicken salad sandwich (the one with the cherries and garlic aioli). Be still my beating heart! It was one of the best sandwiches I have ever had. The gluten free bread was fantastic. It wasn't dry. It didn't fall apart. If I hadn't just had a lengthy conversation about protocols,I would never believe that bread was GF. I will be back and will be bringing my friends and family. The chicken salad was high quality. Like I said, one best sandwiches I've ever had. I also ordered the potato wedges, fantastic and the cucumber salad (highly recommend). I will be dreaming about this meal. It was so good that I talked to the chef afterward and told her how much I loved the meal and thanked her for offering GF options. Environment: this is a cute little cafe right on the corner of Pearl Street and Louisiana. Pro tip#1: let them know you have celiac. They will be happy to tell you about their safety precautions and will label your food.

Awesome find today! I was a bit hesitant since it's chicken and what can I say? It's almost always dry! Not here! Same prolific owners of Fruition and Snooze. Chook excels in simpler food. The star is of course the chicken cooked over coals. Chook is Australian slang for chicken. This is an upscale fast-casual spot. A whole juicy chicken will run you $20. Half $13. 1/4 dark $6 and white $8. You get a choice of their one of their tasty sauce. Gravy. Chimichurri. Piri-Piri. I tried their chicken, Mac and cheese and their Booyah Stew. It's basically a stew with pulled chicken and all the charred mixed vegetables. It's really good. Clear broth tastes healthy and you can taste the charred veggies. That gives it an exceptional taste. The quinoa gives it that added texture! Check out the Booyah Kit $10 to take home. It's the innovative approach to addressing leftovers. Come with instructions of course! Their cocktails are called the Happy Pots . I noticed an Old Fashioned, Spot-On Negroni, Dry Gin Martini and Dirty Vodka. That contraption called the spit is directly from Australia. Uniquely very well suited to do what it's intended to do. Roast chicken well and keep them perfectly in place! Although the sauces are tasty I highly suggest getting a bite of the chicken without the sauce. It's really good without it!

I wanna give it 3 but the goddess salad and the gravy have me feeling gracious. To be honest, their chicken is kind of boring to me. I get the dinner for two and just eat the sides and make chicken salad out of the chicken the next day 🤷🏻

The mashed potatoes are good permitting they haven’t run out at 6:45 on a Tuesday night. The gravy is really the only sauce you should concern yourself with. I’ve tried the others and they’re okay. Peri peri tastes like how gym socks smell. Chimichurri was a nice attempt but so boring. Anyways, that gravy. So good.

Goddess salad is so strange but I crave it. Not even sure what all the ingredients are, don’t really care. It’s probably the furthest thing from a salad but good god is it tasty. Mac n cheese? Good.

It’s a little pricey for one but I get the two pack and I get 2.5 meals out of it. Maybe 3.5 since I make chicken salad with the meat. They have beer, and the gal at the corner lets me sample the seasonal ones which is nice. My biggest gripe here honestly is the lack of sweet tea. I seldom drink alcohol but will treat myself to a beer now and then. But what kind of chicken shop, that features “Your mamas gravy” on their menu, doesn’t give me the option to wash the gravy down with her sweet tea? I’m not talking any “local organic blah blah blah” or “we can add simple syrup to it”. I’m talking diabetic episode inducing, Luzianne brand brewed right into the sugar so it dissolves and stirred until it’s foaming up top. Get...
