Doghouse Tavern — Restaurant in Denver

I am back and the Dog House Tavern is better than ever. I used to come here years ago, but there was some issues with the management, or should I say lack of management. A little over two years ago I gave this place a very bad review, but since I have returned about 6 weeks ago the Dog House has because a welcoming place to come to, management and staff are GREAT!!!! The manager is FANTASTIC and she has done a great job getting the place back to the way it was years ago, actually it is better than ever......

I love the Doghouse....but

I have been coming to the Doghouse Tavern for years, the food is great and prior to the Covid scare the staff was great. Brooke and Mario and Christine are the BOMB...... I also miss Henry and SeaBass

My complaint is the current manager, in my mind the manager has basically ruined the welcoming atmosphere of the Doghouse.

This person took advantage of the Covid crisis to lay the entire staff off and keep all shifts for themselves.

The person is very fake and not in tune with how this establishment has progressed from the onset of when the doors opened. Sure there have been many managers through the years at the Doghouse, Danette you are truly missed, but the current manager by far is the worst the establishment has every hired!

This person bad mouths the other staff to the customers, something that is so unprofessional and not called for in any industry. I have actually heard such insults in the past towards staff prior to the Covid scare.

Honestly I love the Doghouse, but I am very conflicted because in my mind I am not sure I want to go there anymore, but the food and service is great as long as the manager is not serving me.....

It pains me to have to write such words, but this is how I feel and it hurts, because I truly love this...

The bar is average here. What I really disliked was the food. Even food on special is over priced for what you receive. It's simply a sub-par kitchen and they are charging a premium. I live nearby and was hoping to find a neighborhood hangout. Not happening here.

Lastly, there are some terrible regulars in this place. I'm a white guy and I couldn't believe how many racist comments were freely thrown around from both White and Hispanic patrons. An example: a random white guy began talking my ear off and loudly repeating the N word (bar echoing loud) with some racist jokes. After the racial thing became overwhelming, I looked up to the bar tenders for a little help. They just ignored it like it was business as usual. I paid my tab and left in the middle of the game I was watching. That's one time I was in there, I gave this place at least a handful of visits and at best it was a 3-star visit. Just a sad sack of regulars, which usually happens with a bar that is going under. Clean up your act, that starts with the staff taking accountability for the over-served racist customers.

Typically this place is great good food good environment. Past 3 visits have been poor service. Tall blond girl is very inconsistent depending on her mood that day. If busy you will never see her and she’s very very rude. The last visit topped it for us! My boyfriend flew in from a long trip stopped in with some friends for a beer when she came around to order another he leaned back to look at the specials she said “your drunk I’m cutting you off!” I understand the law and looking out for those that have had too much but she served him 1 beer and he had nothing else to drink that day! And because he looked tired determined that was drunk...? The shocking part is the times we are there she serves her regulars till the are baligerant! As leaving she had the male bar tender Mario chase after our friend accusing him of not paying! And the money was on the table!! Who needs to be cut off??? Good place other than the moody monster she will make you never want...
