Very disappointed. We actually thought the food here was great. We had good service all the way up until we got the check. However, deceptive business practices can't make up for good food or good service...
Happy hour is clearly stated as half-price for certain items. i.e. we ordered 2 happy hour quesadillas, for 11 dollars each. Half off, they should be $5.50 each. However, when we got our bill we saw each quesadilla was $8.00, which is neither half off or full price. There was absolutely no reason an $8.00 quesadilla should be on the bill. We were also charged an additional $1 for meat in one quesadilla that was never listed as an additional charge on the menu, as well as an additional $1 on half-off shishito peppers for no reason at all.
When we spoke to the manager she was very deflective about the amounts, saying 'we need to update our menu' and some lie about meat in a quesadilla being more (even though that's not reflected on the menu at all). She hardly let me make my case for why the amounts were off, instead offering to comp $4 shishito peppers (even though they over-charged us $7). I didn't want to make a stink about $3, but I shouldn't have to.
It was pretty clear to me that they are taking advantage of happy hour customers who don't notice the discrepancy between the menu and the receipt. Won't be coming back unfortunately, which is a shame because the food was legitimately good. If you decide to come here, thoroughly check your receipts!
EDIT: Hi Jake,
Thanks for the thoughtful response. If it was truly a clerical error than I understand why the prices weren't properly represented. I'm guessing we were mistaken about who the manager was. I'll go ahead and change my review to 4 stars. I'm sure that others will notice if the prices aren't corrected.
P.S. We were not comped "all the food", just the shishito peppers, which was $5 of the $7 we were overcharged. We were happy to pay the price that was advertised, and don't expect any other refund (it's a $2 overcharge now after all). We just want to make sure that it doesn't happen to anyone else.
P.S.S Your happy hour menu in general could be a lot clearer. There's symbols for happy hour items but there is also a happy hour label under certain sections which don't contain happy hour items exclusively. We made a few mistakes about what we thought was on happy hour, but that's on us for...
Read moreMy husband I came here on a a Friday (few days ago) night around 5pm after we found out Machete was closed that evening. We’ve always wanted to try this place so we were pretty excited! Unfortunately our experience was just okay. We ordered chips and salsa which were again, just okay. The salsa was more like a flavorless paste to me and didn’t pack any real flavor or heat. We had to end up reminding our server 10+ min later too that we had even ordered them. My husband got the taco platter with rice and beans I ordered the Chile rellenos with refried beans. I was disappointed with our food. My husband had ordered a Barbacoa taco but the server came back and said they were out?! A taco place out of meat on a Friday? Okay. All of the tacos looked the same (Asada, Carnitas, Korean Pork Belly) there was no presentation, couldn’t tell which one was which and were just thrown on the plate. My Chile Rellenos were drowned in what it appeared to be the thick tomato paste they gave me with my chips earlier creating a watery mushy mess on my plate :( I had to scrape the paste all of my food to even enjoy the rellenos. There didn’t seem to be any batter on the rellenos or the salsa made it dissolve. I didn’t get my refried beans that I had ordered, I got black instead. The rice was terrible, tasted like it was a instant rice 😅 Maybe my husband I are just spoiled since we eat a lot of homemade rice. One of the girls from the bar insisted in shoving a cocktail in my face over and over while I shook my head no with a mouth full of food, trying to tell her I didn’t order it (I’m 5 months pregnant). I would loveee a drink trussst me ;) My husband finally told her that we didn’t order it and she says “dang it” and walks away?! Awkward response. It was just a very weird experience, only two waiters working on a Friday night and you could tell they were both very flustered. I did love the atmosphere and my husband enjoyed the drinks a lot. I just felt like there was nothing special that “wowed” me. Felt like I could go down to the taco shop from my house or a neighbors weekend bbq for better quality of food for cheaper if not for free 🙃. Will maybe be back to try their drinks and maybe just for an app but I wouldn’t come here and expect anything...
Read moreI recently had the pleasure of dining at Mezcal, a captivating restaurant that left a lasting impression on my taste buds. From the moment I walked through the doors, I was greeted with a warm and inviting ambiance, setting the stage for a remarkable culinary journey.
To start our meal, we ordered the Chile Rellenos and Mezcal Nachos. The Chile Rellenos were simply exquisite. The roasted poblano peppers were stuffed with a flavorful blend of cheese and spices, creating a harmonious balance of mild heat and cheesy goodness. The Mezcal Nachos, on the other hand, were a delightful twist on a classic favorite. The generous topping of gooey cheese, fresh salsa, black beans, and tangy guacamole made for an irresistible combination that had me reaching for one nacho after another.
Moving on, we indulged in the Pozole Rojo, Mezcal Burrito, and Carne a la Tampicania. The Pozole Rojo was a comforting bowl of traditional Mexican soup, brimming with tender pork, hominy, and an array of fragrant spices. It was rich, hearty, and soul-warming. The Mezcal Burrito was a true showstopper. Packed with succulent meat, rice, beans, and a medley of vibrant vegetables, each bite was bursting with flavor. Lastly, the Carne a la Tampicania was a carnivore's dream come true. The perfectly grilled steak, topped with sautéed onions and peppers, was juicy, tender, and incredibly satisfying. It also includes a good portion of Mexican rice, enchiladas, guacamole, corn tortillas, and a grilled jalapeno.
What impressed me the most about Mezcal was the consistent quality across all the dishes we tried. The ingredients were fresh, the flavors were authentic, and the presentation was visually appealing. The attentive and friendly staff further elevated the dining experience, providing exceptional service throughout our visit.
With its diverse menu and consistently delicious offerings, Mezcal is undoubtedly a place I would eagerly return to. The restaurant strikes a harmonious balance between traditional Mexican cuisine and innovative twists, resulting in a memorable dining experience for any food enthusiast. Whether you're seeking classic favorites or exploring new flavors, Mezcal is a culinary gem that should...
