Ponchos Mexican Restaurant — Restaurant in Denver

I feel like this may not be a fair review. However, I will share my experience but please keep in mind this is just one experience as feel this place may deserve better. On arrival there are panhandlers right outside the front entrance making it hard to find guilt free. Be sure your Spanish is up to par as English is very limited here and you will be judged. Nice options on the menu, chips and salsa included. Chips are warmed and look very tasty. Salsa looked fresh and smelled great. After learning that the rice was made with chicken broth and the beans were made with animal lard I was unable to find any vegan choices on the menu unfortunately. I can say that others appeared to be enjoying the food. All I can really say is, if your a carnivore who likes Mexican food, give this place a try. It has a nice feel inside like an old fashion dinner and it smells great. Tell others about your experience....

First time here! Excellent choice for our Valentines Day Dinner! Waitresses very nice and attentive!! Food, let's see I ordered the Carnitas Taco Plate with a side Cheese Enchilada. Hubby ordered the Mexican Hamburger(the hamburger comes with a chile rellano inside) with a Tamale on the side. Food was filled with flavor with every bite. I'm picky with rice and this rice was whole rice (not the broken pieces restaurants usually serve) and authentic. Definitely will make the 30 minute drive to come back and try different menu items. This place is amazing! My wife and I had the carnitas plate and the birria tacos. The carnitas were actually crispy. Most restaurants don't bother crisping the pork. This makes all the difference! The birria tacos were the best tacos I've ever had. The consomme was so flavorful. Their salsas were also incredible. We had the chorizo fundido and michelada as well. The chorizo wasn't overly greasy and the cheese was actually melted cheese and not a cheese sauce. Again these details make all the difference. It was so good. The michelada was excellent.
