I don't know what to think of this place. It's something of an absurd pairing --A speakeasy that features a record shop which leads to an 80's themed bar that looks like they got the carpet from a shuttered bowling alley. I certainly don't hate it, but it seems like someone trying to cash in on Gen X nostalgia. That being said, I guess it's working because I've been there multiple times and taken several people to it as well.
I really don't know that I enjoy the entire process of waiting to be checked in either. It seems like it would make more sense to just walk into the bar and look for seating rather than a gimmicky/tired speakeasy concept.
Finally, the last time I was there, a friend and I sat on the egg chair in the corner when we first arrived. Together, the two of us weigh 270 lbs together, much less than many Americans do alone. We were reprimanded by a server who said that the chair couldn't hold two people. Wtf? So can it hold one larger drunk person but not two sober individuals? Is it a magical seat from Hogwarts that can count how many people are using it? Or is it a weight thing? And if the chair is so delicate, does it belong in a bar where people are drinking? It's not a blinking antique store. For a place trying to cultivate fun, umm... Not fun. Turn off.
I have never eaten there because the menu is a nostalgia based after school affair, reflecting what a 14-year-old boy in 1986 might eat. If you are dining on pizza rolls outside of your house (or ever, really, even in your home), you probably need them.
I'm sure that I'll drop back in at some point because Sobo is desperate for decent neighborhood bars, but I also don't crave going back in...
Read moreI went here with my husband, when we walked in they were playing top gun on the tvs so insanely loud that it was actually hurting my ears. I went to the bathroom and could not believe how loud it was even with the door shut. When I came back out I could barely hear the server asking for our ids and even had to basically yell to my husband to tell him my ears were hurting. The fact that they took no responsibility for how loud it was and instead commented on my husbands review about it being the time they show movies is actually insane. Showing a movie is one thing, showing a movie with the volume louder than an actual movie theatre in a tiny space is another. I could feel the movie in my chest in a bad way. The environment is really cool but we walked out because of how loud it was. I’ve been to plenty of places with movies in the background or the news. Captions are an option alongside a lower volume. Won’t be going back due to the lack of care in the response to my husband. Oh also we let them know when we’re leaving it was because of the sound. Our reservation was for 5:30pm, they could’ve said oh the volume won’t be that loud soon since we stop the movies at 6. They did not explain to us in person at all that it was movie night or the timeframe of that even when we let them know why we...
Read moreVery poor customer service!!! It was my 50th birthday celebration, and I was super excited to go to this 80's theme speakeasy bar! I had reached out to Scott to make a reservation for my 50th birthday party, since I was unable to make a reservation online cause of the amount of people I had coming. When we arrived they did NOT have my reservation in the system. Mind you, I spoke to Scott a month and half in advance about this. I had the emails of communication between Scott and I, which I showed the receptionist. The receptionist had to go into the back and had to called Scott, in order to even let us in. They were going to try to seat us at the bar, which had NO room for us to sit cause I had a party of 10! There were already 4 people seating at the bar, and only 4 seats left. That does NOT seat a party of 10! They said they were unable to seat us anywhere else due to another party coming in that also had a reservation. The customer service at this speakeasy bar, was very unprofessional and in excusable!! I suggest NOT to schedule a monumental birthday party at this speakeasy!! We ended up going somewhere else where it was much more FUN and had NO problem on finding a place to sit and enjoy my birthday! I do NOT recommend this speakeasy...
