If I could give the alleged "original" CHUBBY'S a "0" rating, I'd do it. I was hunger after work Thursday evening and was craving something spicy. I would have gone to Tamale Kitchen (Edgewater) but they had just closed. TK isn't my 1st choice for South of the border cuisine but their food is fresh, spicy and pretty good overall. Lots of folks eat at Chubbys so I figured I'd try it. I have eaten there a couple of times prior to Thursday night. I wasn't impressed but I recall it wasn't bad. Unfortunately, it went from OK to horrible. I ordered the Chile Releno burrito and a side of salsa, smother with green Chile. First off, the burrito was STUFFED with what tasted like Rosarita refried beans STRAIGHT OUTTA THE CAN. No seasoning, and stiff as a board in terms of texture. Refritos (refried beans) should have the consistency of a thick soup (think split pea soup), and seasoned with garlic, some cayenne pepper and a little comino but don't kill the beans with those spices. They should have used about half of the amount of beans in the burrito. I typically don t want a bean burrito when I order a Chile releno burrito. The tortilla had a "gluey" texture. Usually, that means the tortilla is STALE! It gets worse. Most places which serve this type of cuisine will ask if you want your releno crispy or soft. (Personally, I prefer crispy because it adds a cool flavor as it enhances the texture. Although soft relenos can taste great too provided they're made with the right ingredients. A Chile releno consists of an anehiem pepper split down the middle, seeds and ribs removed and it's stuffed with either Monterrey or pepper jack cheese (sharp cheddar is acceptable if the jack cheese isn't available as long as its a GOOD brand Tillamook sharp cheddar is great). They stuffed the.chile with PLAIN CREAM CHESSE!!! The cream cheese stuffed pepper surrounded by a heaping helping of hard flavorless ROSARITA REFREID BEENS, and the stale tortilla would throw even the strongest of stomachs into severe gastro-intestinal distressk. I took maybe 2 bites of it because that flavorless cream cheese almost made me throw up. When I took the mess back to the counter, the woman manning the cash register wouldn't even let me exchange it for something edible. I wasted $10 of my hard earned money for a plate of MUSH. NEVER AGAIN will they get one red cent from me. It also smelled like a sewer. Had I cleaned my plate, I'd probably be sick right now so I guess it was a hard learned lesson. Taco Bell is gourmet Mexican food compared to that place and so is 7-11! Don't waste your money. Go to Senor Burrito's, Las Delicious or...
Read moreSo my cousin and I got eat after a broncos win, the place is full and when my cousin orders he asked for salsa so he can obviously pay for it, the cashier says "just ask for it when you get the food and I'll give it to you". When our order is up, this other older lady with red frame glasses hands us our food and ny cousin asks for his salsa, the lady says "you have to pay for it" my cousin tells her I tried paying for it earlier and the cashier said that its ok to just ask for it when they hand over the food. The lady insists that he must pay for it. Now this is after a broncos game and win, so the place is full and my cousin just turned around and left because it was too long of a line to wait to pay for some tiny containers of salsa. The cashier over hears this situation and proceeds to get salsa for my cousin and hands it to him and says next time you have to pay for it. Making us look like we're trying to get free salsa.......smh. And for myself I hand a receipt over to the red framed glasses lady and ask for a cup for my "orchata" which my cousin paid for, while this situation is unfolding in front of me. The lady gives me a cup which I pour ice into and then I put the cup back down in front of the counter and kindly ask the red frame lady for her to fill my cup with orchata. She not oy ignores me but proceeded to keep working expecting food orders to other costumers. I'm patient and wait, then she finally looks at me grabs the cup and mumbles something on her way to fill my cup with orchata, I say to her "what was that" and she answers me with, "I don't think it said orchata or your receipt, I think it said coke" ......... smh....... I told her to check the receipt and she just ignored me.... total disappointment in this place, I've been coming here for more than 20 years and I get it there is a different vibe in here, but does this red frame glasses lady really think I pulled out my calculator to see howmany pennies I would save if I say I'm gonna get coke and then get orchata instead with the fact that I just handed the receipt to her and she is the one who actually pours orchata into my cup from her side of the counter which I have no access to... anyway I guess I look the an orchata thief and my cousin wants to...
Read moreI can’t believe all the reviews. I have read, especially about staff and that stink face they greet you with sometimes. Very rare there is one female who does not greet you like the rest of them. Shorter girl looks younger than the other two that are always there. They always give you different amounts of meat when you ask for it on your fries Something is always off and different. Never the same. This day that I was there last this individual didn’t have to wait in line at all, went straight ahead of the line and they helped him even though there was a line seems to be related to the owners in someway shape or form I believe someone said grandson or something. He took a group of friends to feed as well. As far as I know he did not pay at all. He was handed his stuff for free when I’m sure he’s only supposed to get something for himself for free. I can’t remember what name they called him by, but to see that in front of ussucks because we had been waiting a good minute for our food as numbers also get called weirdly I understand some orders are smaller than others, but still off everyone for us and after us was gone already and then this happens. And yet this individual got up a few times to keep coming back for more food, even if there was a line. I’m happy for him that he gets free meals especially if he his family but wow to take the biker buddies to eat too on the house is a little much. I forgot to mention the lady at the counter purchasing had been in our shoes, waiting on her food forever and the grandson just keeps coming up, asking for stuff and they just hand it to him in front of her. You could see her...
