I was so excited to mark another local tavern/bar off the list in town. One with such high ratings and decent looking photos, I expected to be so much more than the disappointment it ended up being. Let me start by saying that while my waitress was nice as pie, she wasn’t very intuitive to the fact that I didn’t even eat a bite out of 2/4 items I ordered and the other two I’d had a few bites of. She happily charged me for everything without even asking if there was an issue. So at the end of my meal I waited around for her to come back, I guess she thought I wanted change. I then told her about my eggs being overcooked and me making a sandwich with the toast and eggs, hence no toast being eaten. As for the items I did eat some of: the biscuits and gravy came with three biscuits and the smallest amount of gravy(which was more of a glaze viscosity wise) was not nearly enough for the size and dryness of the biscuit. I must have chosen wrong one of the three when I picked the middle one, it tasted like it was from last week. By the time I got half way thru the biscuit. I just got too icked out. I did however poke the other two biscuits and they seemed fresh as can be. The last item I ordered was the Johnny cakes. The griddled cake itself was wonderful but that syrup just ruined it. Way too bourbon forward, I didn’t need a shot on my cakes, I just wanted something sweet and moisturizing. I’m sure being a bar first and foremost, that sort of thing wouldn’t bother most people. Just my opinion, and having had 4/5 bourbon syrups before, this by far has been my least favorite. Well as I sit here thinking about the 34.00$ I just spent, on the breakfast I didn’t eat…I have to digress. I’m still hungry and need food. I don’t think I would...

I thought the place sounded like a "dive", and probably offered "greasy spoon" type of food typical of such places; man was I surprised to walk into a nice, clean and modern open-space establishment.
We showed up about a quarter past noon on a Tuesday, and were greeted promptly as we sat at the ample bar. The bartender took our drink order immediately and handed us menus and the daily lunch specials, then made a couple of quick suggestions about the days offerings.
Food was delivered promptly by a pretty, smiling and friendly waitress, along with clean napkin-wrapped silverware.
The food looked and smelled delicious, and the way it was arranged on the plate was obviously well-thought out by the kitchen staff.
I ordered the daily "ChopBurger" special - which was delicious, with a side of their (apparently) well-know Tater-Tots. The burger itself was not too small, not greasy and not too large for a lunch portion.
Overall, it was a perfect lunch-option choice for me, thanks to the suggestion of the bartender.
The price per meal seems very reasonable ($10 average) not including a drink other than water.
Overall, I would highly recommend this place for anyone in the Highlands area looking for a good place to hit up for lunch.
Selfishly though, in order to avoid long wait times and crowds, I hope that not too many people start...
Read moreI couldn't wait to try this place, based on everyone's raves about the view. However, as you can see by the picture, the view sort of let me down. And we were seated at the best table in the joint, y'all.
What I wasn't expecting was to like this place for its (a) happy hour prices and (b) downright good food. My husband and I got off work a little earlier than normal (4:30 pm on a Friday) so we were able to reap the HH benefits. $4 merlots! Yikes. Four dollars means they go down faster. Based on the waitress' suggestion, we ordered the Tavern Tots and they were dandy. However, I didn't think I could just sit and eat plain potatoes while drinking wine so we asked for some BBQ dipping sauce and that made all the difference. As if we weren't already full of potatoes, we also ordered wings: half with Buffalo sauce, half with Effing-Hot sauce. The waitress down played the spicy-ness so when my husband wasn't looking, I replaced all the Buffalo wings on his plate with the effing hot ones. He had to have the waitress bring him a shot of milk. LOL.....I'm terrible to go out to eat with.
I honestly don't know what got into us...because we were FULL.... but we also ordered a Cowboy burger to share, added a fried egg to it, and as soon as the waitress left the table with our order, we realized we needed to ask for a to go box. As it turns out, we ended up eating a cold burger at home that was actually too rare but it was perfect for soaking up...
