After seeing photos of Cafe Crevier’s delicious-looking thin crust pizza online, I decided to place a takeout at 2 o’clock on a Saturday. I got a “Thinny Thin” pie and sicilian pie, and, after fees and taxes, the total came to $50. When I received the pizza, I was disappointed to find that both pies were beyond well done; they were burnt. I reached out to the pizza middle-man (Slice) who contacted the restaurant. The manager apparently told Slice “we got our pizza oven a week ago and that’s how the pizza is supposed to look”. After sending Slice photos which were shared with Cafe Crevier (I assume), the restaurant denied a refund and we were stuck with $50 worth of completely burnt pizza.
Before throwing it away, my family and I tasted the thin crust and Sicilian to see if it tasted as bad as it looked. The thin crust, as predicted, tasted like it had been in the oven a few minutes too long. The cheese was hard and dried out like a solid piece of rubber, just like a slice of leftover pizza you put in a toaster oven to reheat and then forget about until it has cooled down and hardened. The underside of the pizza was golden and not at all burnt and the edge was toasty and crisp, as advertised. The cheese alone was the issue as if they had broiled it because the bottom was so thin and fragile.
The sicilian’s crust was black and tasted as burnt as it looked. It was also surprisingly bland towards the center where the crust wasn’t charred. Neither the cheese nor the sauce made up for the burn crust. It was a complete disappointment.
The pizza was by and large inedible. For the first time in my life, I threw almost two entire pizzas in the garbage and started over with a new order from another restaurant.
I understand there may be a learning curve with a new pizza oven, but I do think there is a difference between “well-done”/“crispy” (which I like in a pizza) and burnt. A restaurant who claims to make their pizza “well-done” needs to tread that line carefully or else they’ll wind up with a lot of disappointed customers like my family and me. If I’m wrong and this is in fact what Cafe Crevier intended to deliver, I hope future customers will find this review to understand how their pizza “is supposed to look”...
Read moreWas really excited to try this place and I think my expectations might have been too high. We went for brunch on a Sunday. First thing I noticed was paper menus - not in a plastic insert or anything. They were already wrinkled and beaten up. The service was iffy - after a few min the owner came to our table and said “did they take your drink orders yet?” And we said no - so she took them. A few minutes later the server came to take our food order. When the owner came back with our drinks she said “did they take your food order?” It seemed odd that there wasn’t a better way to keep track of who was taking orders.
We ordered 2 coffee drinks that were really good, chocolate chip pancakes, and classic eggs Benedict.
The food came out fast. The eggs Benedict came on a thin, untoasted slice of whole wheat bread. Like the kind you buy in a plastic sleeve at the grocery store. I would have expected an English muffin or Italian bread or something… and at least toasted. The eggs themselves were cooked perfectly, but the home fries that came with it were cold.
Pancakes were good, but when the server first came over to give us our food, he only put the eggs down and walked away with the plate of pancakes. I think he was waiting to get the syrup & butter to serve with it, but we then sat watching the pancakes sit on the ledge between the kitchen and dining room for a bit. Why not just give us everything in his hands initially and say “I’ll be right back with the syrup”?
They were also playing music in the restaurant, but with constant ads. That was really distracting and took away from the experience of dining out. Spring for the radio subscription without ads or use Spotify or something - we don’t need to hear advertisements for WhatsApp while eating!
Overall the food was decent and ambiance is nice, but service was just ok and the ads over the radio were annoying. I know this is a new place, so hopefully as they iron out the kinks things get better! Attention to details makes a huge difference for overall dining experience. Right now I’m not sure I’d go back… we’d give it another chance probably in...
Read moreSo as a foodie from Queens NY and after seeing the massive review on “One Bite” I decided to visit family who are in the next town over from Denville. We had a nice get together and Ordered thru the Slice app (2 Large Regular Pies & 1 Large Thinny Thin) DoorDash delivered the order and that’s where it all began. I was sent 2 Thinny Thins. The driver notified me that that was the order they were given. The receipt said I was supposed to get 1 Large & 1 Thinny. Which was still incorrect. I then call the store and after explaining the situation to 2 employees was told DoorDash messed up which was incorrect because both boxes had my name on it. Upon asking for a manager multiple times and being put on hold and being told no one was available I kept pushing to get someone on the phone especially after paying $75 for 3 pies. One of the employees even said they would fix the problem and have it delivered to me, to be me back on hold and then say no they couldn’t. After that A women got on the phone claiming to be the owner and very rudely said I would have to drive all the way over there and she would fix it. I refused and said since it was their fault to pay for an Uber and have it brought to me especially since we had already waited a long time and were hungry. She denied, so here I was stuck with not enough food/wrong order for the the family that I came to visit and was excited about trying the amazing pizza. The women then said she would cancel the order which I still had doubts about due to the tone in her voice and had to call the Slice app, which was another 20min phone call and they canceled it for me. Still have to wait 3 business days for my refund. And after 40 mins of being on the phone trying to figure out what was wrong no one ate because the pizza got ice cold and I had to spend more money to order from somewhere local. Customer service was terrible and the rudeness...
