I either have a great experience at this place or one to complain about. In a nut shell, the food is great, but the staff can be infuriating. As a long-time former service industry worker I am extremely understanding and forgiving towards servers and retail workers. I don’t want to come off totally cruel, because not every staff member I’ve encountered at church street was rude, but I’m aware now I have a 50/50 chance of having a terrible experience depending upon who’s working. To put it simply, it’s a group of 6-7 teenagers running a bagel shop. The overwhelming carefree attitude towards customer service and condescending responses towards concerns/inquiries can be infuriating. It sucks, because I’ve been a huge fan of smart world for years before they merged. Incredible coffee and food. Even after they merged, I didn’t have this opinion initially. I guess it just slowly transformed into that type of place. Church street still has great food, don’t get me wrong, but there’s a lot more to think about when reviewing a place as a whole. If you don’t mind the service then it’s really not a problem. Who am I to say for sure, you could end up having a great experience. It’s always a toss up for me.
