Just dined there this evening (11/22/23). If I could give less than 1 star for this experience, I certainly would!
Came here out-of-state to celebrate my brother's graduation. We booked a private room and staff knew our party size in advance. There were 23 of us and we were given only one server. The restaurant was not busy at the time as our reservation was for 3:30pm. Things started out okay with the server getting our drinks and bringing them out rather quickly.
Unfortunately, that's where the positive reviews end. After taking our separate orders, the food took over 1.5 hours to arrive. I received my meal shortly before 5pm but many others, including my husband at my table, still had no food until almost 5:30pm! Not to mention, three of the five kids in our party did not receive their food until AFTER most of the adults. One party member received her meal before her appetizer and ended up leaving before the appetizer even arrived! My sister ended up cancelling her meal—a simple salad with grilled chicken!—because out of the 23 meals, it was second to last to be made!
The food was subpar, most of the time not cooked to the right temperature and specification. We returned two dishes back to the kitchen because the food was inedible or cold. The meals that were eaten were reportedly overcooked and/or saturated in oil (deep fried brussels sprouts and the fried fish in the fish & chips platter). The inconsistent food quality seems to be a universal issue here as other reviews have mentioned the same (along with above average wait times for food service).
I don't know if this is an issue with the chef, our server's lack of communication, or overall management; however, it is unacceptable all around! No one informed us that there were any issues in the kitchen! No one came out to apologize about our meals being delayed or to explain what the hold up was! No one even asked us how we liked our visit!
What was supposed to be a celebratory outing turned out to be stressful one as it left many frustrated and hungry/unsatisfied!
Shame on Rotunda. I'll unlikely be back since I don't live here but I can guarantee there has been a bad taste left...
Read moreWe tried the Rotunda in Hershey for date night tonight. We couldn't get through by phone, so we made a reservation online. It was a cold, rainy day, so when I made the reservation, I noted in the note section that we'd like to be inside, preferably at a booth if possible. (We've never been there before, but I've seen the large white tent that takes up most of the parking lot). When we arrived, after scouring for parking, and finally finding a spot in a field behind the restaurant near the dumpster, the hostess greets us, then answers a phone call mid-sentence. Once she finished with the call, she proceeded to walk us outside and sit us at a high top table. I told her that won't work, but we'd be happy to wait until we could have something indoors. She said they're booked, but she'd ask. I did let her know i noted it in the reservation, but she asked if it was through Yelp I went through the website, which directs you to yelp. ? Anyway, we finally got seated and ordered cocktails. We overhear our waiter have to come over to a nearby table to let them know the bar is out of their cocktail order. As we order an appetizer, we overhear him go back to the same table to let them know the kitchen was out of the duck that they ordered. (I guess so far, we were having a better experience than they were! ). My husband ordered the salmon. I didn't want to pay $30 for gnocchi with shrimp, so I decided on the pork tacos. Both plates came out pretty cold. It took so long, I didn't want to say anything. The tacos, although described beautifully on the menu lacked flavor. I asked the waiter for a couple of limes, but never saw them. My husband's cocktail finally came with his entree. The salmon wasn't impressive, and the entire dish was very dry. Even though the pile of arugula was well dressed, that and a small half tablespoon dollop of lemon sour cream was the only sauce on the plate. We weren't impressed. Especially after leaving at 8pm from a 6:15 reservation. I don't think we would need to...
Read moreThis was an unfortunate end of our evening. While in town for an event my husband and I thought a popular local spot was just the ticket...we were wrong. The hostesses were quick to get us a spot at a high top table near the bar. We were seated at the coldest table outside of Antarctica, we asked to just be seated outside (it was warmer), we were told, nope...sorry. Okay, we made the best of it. The waiter/bartender with the man bun was quick to bring us some water then left us for about 15 minutes to ponder our drink selections. Once he came back we gave drink and food orders (we had plenty of time to decide). Drinks came out pretty quick, then service went downhill. My husband ordered a steak (medium) and I asked for the chicken tenders. It took well over 30 minutes for food to come, in the meantime I had asked for more water 2x before it was brought to us. Once the food arrived, it looked great and admittedly my husbands steak was okay, cooked well and my chicken looked great...but then I tasted it. It tasted like deep fried dirt. GROSS. Now most restaurants will notice when a customer isn’t eating or will at least stop by and check in how the food was received, but not this joint! Well over 45 minutes went by, no one ever checked on us until it was time to bring the check. (Mind you we never saw our waiter again). I asked for a manager because I certainly wasn’t paying for food that was non-edible and thought they might like to know how customers were being ignored. Nope, they never came. We paid our bill and left. So I figured since the management wasn’t interested in my feedback, perhaps putting it out there for others to read my help inform some decisions of future diners....we will certainly...
