We visited Desserts, etc. twice in one weekend while visiting Hershey. Saturday evening we knew we were there close to closing. We had finished dinner at a local pizza place a few minutes away (Mannino's) and wanted to try here for dessert. We ordered to go. The desserts were wonderful and the girls working the counter were very sweet. The next morning we decided to go here for breakfast. Once again, the food was great. However the older woman at the counter snapped at my son when he began to order. My daughter told her there would be four of us. I had ordered my drink and the older woman taking the order came back and asked if there was anything else. I told my son to go ahead. My son started to place his request and she snapped she was talking to me. I said he was with us. She snapped she wanted to know if I wanted anything else in my coffee (I got the s'mores special). My son was polite, please and thank you type. He started with "Could I please get..." when she cut of off. I was a little put off by how the woman acted. Yet it was busy (but not line out the door busy) and I am certain they can be inundated by some high-maintenance people However, when you are looking towards someone and asking if there is anything else. to snap at the person you are looking at when they begin to order is a bit out of line. I used to work in customer service when I was younger and have the utmost respect for people who endure the abuse of others. However, her tone with a young person WHOM she was looking at when she asked if there was anything else was out of order and completely different from the sweetness of the girls the night before and the girl running the counter as well.
So, the desserts were great the night before. Cream puff, peach cupcake, chocolate bomb and a sort of stuffed cookie.
For breakfast, my son said the HUGE oatmeal raisin cookie he got for breakfast (don't judge, he is an adult) and the hot chocolate were some of the best he had (the hot chocolate did not taste like a machine or a doctored mix). The crumb cakes and blueberry muffin were excellent. The s'mores coffee was OK. My daughter got a chai and husband, black tea.
Would we go back there when in the area? Absolutely for the food. My concern is the attitude of the older woman will persist with others (and various reviews mentioned a woman who was less than pleasant) will negatively affect the business. BUT THE YOUNGER STAFF...

I ordered a cannoli cake for a triple birthday celebration. I'm out of state and did the ordering process via email. I went to the internet and searched for cake bakeries in Hershey and chose the one that was close to the restaurant I picked on Chocolate Ave. I had no prior experience with them.
I would never do business with Desserts Etc again for the following reasons;
They charged $25 to deliver the cake to the restaurant which was only one mile from their bakery and they would not take less They refused to email me a picture of the finished cake They normally put cannolis on the top of the cake (you can see their cannoli cake on their website) but since I wanted the top of the cake decorated with the three names of the birthday people and their combined age, Andrea told me "The cannolis will go around the edge of the cake with the names in the middle." However, there were no cannoli's on the cake anywhere They did not notify me that the cake was in fact delivered to the restaurant, I arrived at the restaurant after a long drive not knowing if it was there. All they needed to do was to send me an email that it was delivered but they did not. The cannoli filling was very thin and difficult to know it was a cannoli filling. Without the cannoli's on it, no one knew what the filling was, it was just too thin to pick out the taste.. .. and we are cannoli loving people, which is why I ordered a cannoli cake.
To me, they were not customer centric, they showed no interest satisfying my needs except to write the names on the top of the cake and take my payment. I invite either Andrea and/or Samuel to reply and find fault with what I have written in this review. I have all the back and forth emails and have factually stated my experience.
The cake: the white cake was good and moist. The chocolate chips that are supposed to be in it were slim to none as we all tried to find them. The icing was the very sweet kids birthday cake type, which I like but it was way too thick, I mean it was around five to six times thicker than the filling, thereby overpowering the taste of the cake. We all had to remove a lot of it and leave it on the plate.

Read moreYummy desserts, adorable shop, some employees are courteous while you can tell others would rather not be there.
We were in the area for Labor Day weekend to go to Hershey as I'm sure many in the area do and I saw this bakery near where we were staying. I have a huge sweet tooth so this is definitely a place. I wanted to make sure I stopped that before we left.
My daughter and I went in one morning soon after opening. There is one other person in the shop and they left. So me and my daughter have never been there before so we were looking over the desserts and menus for about 2 minutes. The girl asked us if we were ready or needed a few more minutes and I told her we needed a few more minutes to decide because there were a lot of delicious looking things that we needed to choose from. About a minute later when we actually started to decide what we wanted but not completely she asked again and again I told her we needed another minute. That's when she rolled her eyes and walked away.
About a minute later when we were ready to order another girl who is much friendlier took our order and we loved everything we got. The only exception was the sweet bread which they told me had apples in it. I maybe got about two pieces of apple so that was a little disappointing but the flavor was very good.
Before we left my daughter wanted to order a smoothie so she got up to look at the options and the same girl from earlier asked her if she was ready or needed a minute and she told her she needed a minute and she rolled her eyes again. Again the other girl helped with what she wanted and then we left.
It would be nice if that one specific employee understood that there are lots of people traveling who've never been in that bakery before and need time to figure out what they want. I would have understood the attitude a little bit more if there was anybody else in the store but it was completely empty.
Honestly the only thing keeping this place from being five stars was the one employee. I would definitely come back if we were to stay in the area again for...
