Sweetsie Bakery & Café — Restaurant in DeSoto

We came today to celebrate my daughter's birthday. They close at 8, we arrived at about 7:05 or so and we had about 10 people with us. We were very sad that they no longer do the ice cream however, we decided to stay and order some food. At 7:59 someone comes out of the back and yells across the counter "We close at 8, thanks" and proceeded to lock the door. We were still in the dining room eating. I understand that they close at a certain time but to me that translates "We're closed get out." I pulled her to the side and said, There's got to be a better way to communicate that. This was the worst experience I have had here and I will not be back. It was the first time for several in my group, we were all disappointed with the service tonight 😔.

Update: We have since spoken to the owner and they have taken steps to correct the issue in the future. Thanks for assisting us...

Sweetsie is amazing! First off the inside is cute and each table has the logo painted on there. And secondly the food is delicious! The first time I went was for the rolled ice cream. The only other place in this area that I know of that serves rolled ice cream is in Deep Ellum. It was super yummy! The other day I ordered from Sweetsie on uber eats and got the egg roll meal which is 3 egg rolls, a side, and drink. I got the chipotle chicken egg rolls with chipotle lime sauce, fries, and sweet tea. Everything was perfect! It was so filling that I saved 1 egg roll for later and it even reheated well in the microwave. You can tell that they take time to present their food and that it’s fresh. I also had a lemon chess pie for desert and it was great! I’ll definitely be eating Sweetsie more often! It’s super important to support black owned...

We stopped by after church on Sunday for the first time and I was pleasantly surprised! The bakery is beautiful inside and the chairs are awesome! The peach cobbler cookie,,,Lord have mercy...I coulda slapped everybody in the kitchen! LoL!!! It was DELICIOUS!!!! I purchased a dozen assorted cookies/pies) and they were AWESOME! The Snickerdoodle cookie danced in my mouth, the chocolate chip cookie melted in my mouth and the pecan pie praised hallelujah all over my tongue!! Woowee!! We also tried a few of the eggrolls and they too were savory, flaky and piping hot just like a good eggroll should be. I cannot wait to go back for a ice cream roll!
