I was genuinely excited to finally try Fork in Nigeria on Livernois yesterday. Living on the outskirts of Detroit, I make it a point to support local Black-owned restaurants whenever I’m in the city, and this spot had been on my list for a while. Sadly, the experience left me completely disappointed.
I arrived around 7:50 pm and placed a large order: oxtail with egusi fufu, oxtail with rice, a side of plantains, red snapper, and a zobo drink. From the start, the owner/chef seemed annoyed or frustrated while taking my order, but I brushed it off, assuming it had just been a long day. He read my order back multiple times, so I thought everything was clear. He quoted me 25 minutes. I didn’t get my food until 9:00 pm. I was patient because I saw he was working alone and customers were coming in.
When I finally got my food, he admitted he “made a mistake” and put the red snapper on rice instead of on the side. I let it slide, thinking maybe he swapped the sides but still included my oxtails. Then I realized he didn’t give me my drink. When I went back, he handed me a half-filled cup of zobo with a chunk of frozen ice. At that point I was annoyed, but I decided to just take my food and leave.
The real frustration came when I got home. After waiting over an hour and spending $90, I opened my bag to find nothing but rice dishes, no egusi at all. The very thing I was most excited to try was missing. At that point, I was beyond upset.
I tried to be understanding of the wait, the attitude, and even the mistakes, but to spend that much money, wait that long, and not even receive what I ordered is absolutely unacceptable. This was supposed to be a treat, something I had been looking forward to after seeing all the hype and TikTok reviews. Instead, it was a huge letdown.
Fork in Nigeria… DO BETTER!!! GET HELP! You cannot do this alone, and it shows. People are traveling, spending hard-earned money, and trusting you to deliver what they ordered. I left angry, disappointed, and feeling like my time and money were completely wasted.

Read moreI have been coming to this food truck for some months now, and at first; things were good with the employees up until about 2 weeks ago. First in foremost let me start by saying I live 30 mins away from this place. I really enjoy their food and it is very delicious, however, they need to change some of the staff that works there. I ordered some food for my son and me, was told that the food was going to take 30 minutes. Once that 30 mins was up, I walked up to the screen door to get my food and was told to wait another 10 mins. I waited another 10 mins and walked back up to the screen, and before the girl opened the screen door, another employee was talking a bunch of trash being very rude and nasty. I then asked for my money back. I spent over 50 dollars on my food only to be treated like dirt. The girl then said wait 5 more mins and I will bring the food to you. I literally waited over an hour. People were getting their food before me and I place my order over an hr ago. They need better staff that actually enjoy customer service and people. You dont just charge customers all this money and have them waiting without proper communication. Not once did they come out while I was waiting to say, I'm very sorry for this long wait. Instead, I was treated like I was a bother to them. This is very unfortunate, because I was telling my friends about this place and they wanted to try their food, but the way I was treated, i wouldn't want my worse enemy to go. In addition, once we recieved our food, my son food was lukewarm. He also ordered some pastry dish which is called puff puff and they ran out which caused them to take so long with my food, but instead of communicating that, they kept me on a limbo. I most definitely will...
Read more*I don’t understand all the rave 1/10 food Unfortunately I thought the food was disgusting. My Nigerian boyfriend makes me Egusi and pounded yam often and I clean my plate everytime. I ordered the stewed chicken plate and the jollof is decent but very greasy and wasn’t anything special. I got 2 tiny plantains thar were HARD and almost black ( old ) when I bit into it. The side veggies was only 1 big fork of purple cabbage not the carrots onions and mixed veg advertised in a lot of insta videos. I also got the egusi and fufu ( yet it said pounded yam under the description - pounded yam and fufu aren’t the same thing ) the fufu was hard , taste old , the egusi was TERRIBLE , it had an off putting taste / taste like some chemical like cleaning chemical or something that didn’t belong , I like to eat I don’t throw food away yet I couldn’t eat this , I threw it away. ( I did however take it out trash and take it back up there which I was glad I got a refund but the owner couldn’t even speak 2 words to me to apologize for my experience ) I was so excited to try this food truck I even came up there the day before and realize I came the wrong day went home and came the next day - that’s how high my hopes were. What I got did not taste fresh was very greasy , no hint of spice period and that chemical taste in the Egusi and hard stale tasting fufu , I would NEVER try this food truck again. I’ll stick to my boyfriends Egusi and pounded yam. Oshey.
