This was my first and last time visiting this restaurant. I've lived in the south for well over 16 years, I'm west Indian and I've also enjoyed authentic Louisiana cooking. I can throw down in the kitchen and I've enjoyed great southern food as well. Let's just say this however was not that. Talk about a disappointment. With a name like "Louisiana Creole Gumbo" me and my stomach were expecting delicious authentic food.
I entered the restaurant and was about to order from the self service kiosk but after a few minutes I was greeted and a lady at the counter took my order. The customer service was fine I'd say, as the menu options were explained and the food came fast. However the lack of flavor was the issue.
To begin the collard greens had absolutely no seasoning, not one smoked neck bone or meat morsel. Not one pepper flake or dust in sight. The macaroni and cheese was mushy, oily and lacked flavor. To add insult to injury was the gumbo supreme. It tasted like someone tried to doctor up some Campbell's tomato soup, by adding celery, rice etc. I said to myself Lord , not even authentic andoullie sausage? The sausage they used no lie was similar to Vienna sausages. Shrimp was overcooked and the whole combo just lacked that true flavor.
While initially it looked promising, the corn bread was bland and solid as a rock smh. I literally broke it in half took a bite and had to just spit it out. This whole experience was especially disappointing as I make it a point to support black businesses however the quality just wasn't there. Whoever is in that kitchen needs to take some cooking lessons because they are putting the namesake of the restaurant to shame. I ended up just trashing the majority of the food, talk...
Read moreI have never been here before so a friend of mine suggested this place. When i came in the place wasn't full thank God. So the cashier was annoyed with me for some reason. I ordered my food she still talked to me as if she new me and we were in an argument. Got my change and recipe went and sat down to wait for the gumbo i heard about. 10 mins. Later she yelled out a number the young man that was a head of me looked at his receipt she looked at me and said ma'am is that you. Mind you i have never been here and wasn't informed they were going to call a number out. So i said what is it. She said with the nastiness energy she could muster on your receipt. I said no ma'am what is the number. She says it again and yes it was my number. The young man said dang they got some nasty attitudes around here. I agree and i haven't taste the food yet, but if it is the best i ever had i wouldn't be returning. I spent 30 dollars and the way my bank account is setup i need better customer service. Edit: I came back after eating the gumbo and the bake Chicken plate with greens and yams and white rice. The gumbo was ok it had a lot of celery in it i mean a lot. The bake chicken was so salty i couldn't eat it the yams was real good the greens was ok. So in saying that i hope that they read this and correct the food and not be so heavy...
Read moreAfter a long day, a friend of mine decided to be different and search for something exciting for the night. We decided in Creole and after a brief search, Google gave us this one. And it did not disappoint. The establishment itself was small and straight forward but rich with history through it photos and old jazzy atmosphere. The menu, for someone who rarely ate food like this was a bit confusing and I wish they had more pictures that showcased their selection. We went with the combo platter with shrimp jambalaya, red beans and rice, and shrimp gumbo. Out of the three, the red beans and rice was simply amazing. I could have ate that alone and been satisfied. The jambalaya was good as well but since I don't eat it often, I don't have anything to compare it to. I did not care so much for the gumbo, but don't take my word for it. I wish what we ordered came in carry out and not separate containers so I could have took pictures, but that is minor. If you are a fan of Creole and gumbo and get the taste for it, journey on down to the Louisiana Creole Gumbo Restaurant. My recommendation is the red...
