I drive by this place every Sunday and sometimes during the week. There are usually a decent number of people here, and I've been curious about it.
I stopped and ordered a "Twisted Chicken." It came with lettuce, tomato, bacon, and Swiss cheese, I asked for the spicy chicken, and honey mustard was the sauce.
The fries were definitely delicious, but that chicken was weak. The sandwich was very disappointing. The ingredients were definitely fresh, but that already cut bag lettuce drops all over the place.
Which, I don't understand why a smaller company would use that kind of lettuce. It would be cost-effective to use iceberg lettuce and peel it as it's ordered. And even if you cut that lettuce yourself, it would still be cost-effective because less work is going into it.
Standard business savings, the less a product is touched and moved the more the company saves overall because less effort and time go into the product by the employee and the employee can get more done and be less overwhelmed.
That precut stuff is a bad idea for a road meal. That, though, is in my error, not knowing how this restaurant preps food and having to drive back while eating. But, live and learn.
The chicken was basically a small chicken tender in a ton of breading. The chicken was burned, really hard, and tasted like old grease. There wasn't anything spicy about the chicken. So the spices either got burned off in the grease, or it just isn't that spicy.
What was weird to me is why it was called Twisted Chicken when it's a chicken sandwich with bacon. I mean, cool for creativity, but if you're going to give something a unique name, then make it unique. A spicy chicken could have honey mustard mixed with a jalapeño sauce. A grilled twisted chicken could have garlic aioli with honey mustard sauce, and the regular breaded Twisted Chicken could have honey mustard mixed with ranch or something. I don't know, be more creative, and don't pretend to be creative as a cool gimmick.
I'm not really sure how they can charge $19.74 for that meal and stay open. I wasn't told the price until I got to the window, which was fine, I would have paid that anyway. But, that price suggests that it's worth it. It, in my humble opinion, is not worth it.
I honestly wouldn't pay $10 for what I received. There were a lot of fries, and the bottle of water I received was Fiji, so that was cool, I guess. The water wasn't really cold, which suggests low fridge temps to yet again save money.
I dunno, I see a lot of signs of either a cheap owner or a struggling owner who doesn't really get it. That sounds terrible, but it is what it is.
I usually don't do reviews on restaurant's that aren't a chain until I've been there at least 3 times to try multiple items on the menu but I honestly am not paying that much to risk being disappointed 2 more times.
Considering the area, I honestly don't know how they stay open with those prices. I mean, it could be "the spot" for after hours. There are liquor stores littering the area.
And what did I wait for? The chicken wasn't warm enough to be considered immediately done. I was definitely not waiting for it to be cooked, like I thought.
Like my daughter says.... "It sucks to suck, Elon Musk." 🐍
The fries were 5 stars for sure, but I can't reward the carnival for cool signs and no rides.🤡
Too bad the Gnarly Heifer is all the way in Whitehall on the other side of the state and doesn't have a location in Detroit. Their food is absolutely amazing. They specialize in smash burgers with original flavors. Their fries are super yummy and don't forget to ask for their "Gnarly sauce." It's a great compliment to the fries.
There's also Fat Belly up in Stanwood a little south of Big Rapids they are west just off the Stanwood exit. They specialize in gourmet subs, toasted or not. They have pepper kettle cooked chips, among other flavors, and will bring your food to the car. They are also attached to a gas station so it's perfect for road trippin'...
Read moreFirst, let me say how thrilled I was to be trying something new that was in my neighborhood. I first went through the drive thru for breakfast and got two orders of the two eggs, toast and grits meal. Those two meals cost $30! My initial thought was that was crazy but we paid it nonetheless. Can’t really mess up eggs and toast so…cool! The grits tho were not great. We ended up driving back up to let them know. They were really apologetic and allowed us to select another side. I really appreciated that level of service. At that point I said I would go back for lunch to try them out. I went back the next day for lunch and was met again with more crazy prices - $10+ for coney dogs…no fries…nothing extra. Two hot dogs cost me $10…that’s just crazy. I would totally make them my go-to but they’re really taxing and I hate that. I’ll give them one more try and if not…ima have to hang it up. I really truly...
Read moreOrdered delivery online from out of state for my significant other who is a local in Detroit. He said the food tasted good. I have high standards when it comes to food especially if I’m paying over a certain amount. I ordered the crispy stuffed French toast. It doesn’t look stuffed and it costs $16.89 for 2 pieces of bread which is crazy. Had I known that it didn’t come with anything else I would have ordered something different. I also ordered the cheesecake since today is his birthday which cost $7.48 (at that price i thought it was a whole one and since it wasn’t I could have ordered a custom one at the grocery store and got a whole cheesecake). They didn’t have the cheesecake and I had to order something in place of it so I chose the Oreo cake which cost $5.19. Not sure if the price was adjusted or if I will get a refund for that since I had to pay in advanced on the website. Overall I guess...
