The food is fantastic (hence the 2 stars), but this place is known in my book for SELDOMLY having what they having items advertised for sale. I've been trying to support this business for over a year now, even recommending people, and buying them food... but DAMN do they make it hard! I only had their Fried Dumplings once, and even that was a weird experience to say the least. I ordered 3 and some Dread with a screw face said to me "Yah wann 5 fried dumpling?"... I'm like "no, just 3." He replies "Me cook you 5 fried dumpling!" Even the cashier was looking like 'WTF?', and she was courteous enough to charge me for 3, even though he cooked me 5! They were DELICIOUS, but they never have them anymore!
The last straw was yesterday (March 28th 2019 around 1pm), when I was calling in an order. I was on W. Chicago and Telegraph at the time, and they told me to 'please hold'. I didn't have a problem, only that I was hung up on, and had to call back. Next time was the same thing; 'please hold' and the line would disconnect. Not to mention, I was on hold for so damn long, I almost forgot I was on the phone! After the THIRD TIME, I was LITERALLY down the street from them. By the time I got hung up on again I was in the plaza.
As soon as I walked in, you know what they asked me? "Did you call in for your order?" I damn near got heated when I explained what happened. I asked if the Jerk Oxtails were ready, and SHOCKINGLY they were. But they didn't have any Patties! It's already bad enough that they NEVER have chicken patties, but they didn't have ANY at all. I just lost my appetite for their food and left disappointed.
I follow them on Facebook, and apparently they are building a new location Downtown.... how in the hell are you gonna pull that off, when you can't even get things right at...
Read moreJudging from other reviews this one probably wouldn't make any difference. However, I just want to prepare customers for what to expect. Food tastes good with a constant stream of customers for good reason. However, expect to wait an extremely long time to get your food with very poor customer service due to poor managment. I visited on a Friday afternoon which was in between normal meal times. It was very crowded and had 4 people waiting in front of me for their order. I placed my order after having to flag down somebody to take it. I was told 20-25 minutes before it would be ready. After waiting over 40 minutes it still wasn't ready! Now Jamaican food is not made to order and must be made in advance. How can it possibly take that long to scoop out dishes into cartons to send it out? Looking into the back I see people slowly shuffling around and taking their sweet time. Obviously not concerned about customer service. When you have a huge list of people waiting to get their order shouldn't you be hustling to send food out? Obviously they have plenty of business that they don't care. Listening to many customers complaining about service it's obvious to me this place doesn't place any emphasis on customer service. So in the end I finally received my order one full hour after placing it. It's utterly ridiculous to wait that long for food to be scooped out of a pot into a foam carton. Anyone visiting should expect good food but don't expect any type of service because they really don't care. Oh btw don't forget to double check your order after you get it because if they make a mistake which they often do you will have to wait another hour to...
Read moreSadly, I was completely unimpressed with this restaurant. Before visiting I went online to check out the menu, and saw that they served oxtail. Mind you, when mi pull up ah di restaurant, oxtails * with an S, was showcased on the window. That is a red flag my friends 🚫. The three stars are for the customer service and the curry goat being edible. We were allowed samples of the meat, and the goat was okay, the oxtail had no flavour, and the jerk chicken isn't proppa jerk chicken, it's a bbq jerk chicken singting. Ordered a large curry goat and a small jerk. The rice and plantain was so pinch and the meat is all cut up like every customer a pickney. We had to ask about the portion sizes ( $15 for large ) and the cashier wanted to charge us. As we we're leaving, she came out and brought us a side of rice, which was sweet.
Please don't play yourself and think you know Authentic Jamaican food, eating from here. Supposedly, the owner Rose used to cook back in the day and she had the sweet touch. Alas, it is the present day and the food can't gwan.
Patois used in this review for flavour Signed: a half Jamaican, half Trinidadian
Update: in response to whoever decided to respond to my review. Why would I need to write “fake news” ? lol I’m from Toronto and I know my authentic food. Your response was very unprofessional, but I’m not even surprised lol. Fox News.? Okay beloved..are they even West...
