5-Star Review for Sunrise Restaurant

While visiting Dewey Beach from the Poconos for Funfest, my Bride and I set out Monday morning in search of a great breakfast spot. We found Sunrise Restaurant, a charming corner spot at 2300 Highway One, and knew right away we made the right choice.

From the moment we walked in, we noticed how clean and welcoming the place was. Even the restrooms were spotless—a detail that impressed us right away. I ordered the Easton omelette loaded with green peppers, mushrooms, and American cheese, with a side of French fries and rye toast. My Bride went for the spinach omelette with feta and mushrooms, paired with home fries, rye toast, and, of course, coffee. The omelettes were packed with fresh veggies and cooked to perfection—a true delight for breakfast lovers!

To top it off, we were lucky enough to meet the owner, Rob Holson, who took the time to chat with us. Rob is as genuine as they come, and it was a pleasure letting him know we’d chosen his restaurant to celebrate both our 46th wedding anniversary and my Bride’s birthday.

If you’re in Dewey Beach and looking for a delicious breakfast or lunch, don’t miss Sunrise Restaurant. It’s well worth going out of your way for a fantastic meal and a friendly atmosphere....

It is a-shame that I am seeing so many great reviews for this location. My children, 2 - 16 year olds, and 2 - 12 year olds ordered food to go and sat themselves in a table outside since it was empty. Sadly, the owner told my kids to leave, saying “if you get food to go then you must leave” pointing to the sidewalk to exit the place. There were no signs that said they couldn’t sit there and the owner made sure to make them feel uncomfortable. My daughter felt bad and just apologized leaving the scene. This is beach week for us and the kids were only doing what any patron would think is ok, especially as our beach house is not near there to go home and eat. He even commented on the food packaging saying the kids were being wasteful by ordering to go and not taking it home…taking it home is still “waste” in the trash. This is not necessarily a kid friendly place and make sure if you get food to go that you can’t be on his property at all, even when the...

Breakfast place near the beach.

Stayed just down the street, decided to walk here for breakfast.

Typical cheap diner all around, nothing special, some bad things.

Service was ok, young waitress seemed like she was bored until the end when she brought our check and finally smiled…maybe hoping for a nice tip? Upside is we didn’t have to wait, and our food came quickly.

Fairly generic diner food, eggs, home fries, pancakes, biscuits and gravy, etc. Again our food came very quickly, and was decen, good, but nothing outstanding. What made it unpleasant was the very bad coffee served in cheap plastic cups…for $3.50 per cup. Most diners anywhere at least have heavy mugs and ok coffee, not here…was the worst coffee we have had in quite some time. Took one sip and that was it…money spent on something too bad to drink.

Would I go there again… no Would I recommend…no. Go somewhere else and enjoy a good breakfast with friendly atmosphere, and...

Trust me when I tell you: we can't say enough good things. We started the year out properly by stopping at Sunrise on the way back home and everyone in my gang of friends was beyond glad we did. In an ever developing and gentrified Sussex County, when "boujie" new hotels are built to take the place of the old working class hotels, Sunrise Restaurant still retains that authentic Mom & Pop 'This is where the locals eat' vibe. You seriously cannot beat it. Sunrise Restaurant, Gus & Gus Place in Rehoboth- these places are gems, they have history, they have years steeped in town culture and are woven in multiple threads of hundreds of family tapestries across the country. We had a great breakfast with beyond generous portions and attentive, friendly staff. The owner himself was beyond friendly and funny and we instantly felt a rapport. We fell in love with this place and will make it one of our regular haunts! Go where the locals eat!
