We have only ordered twice so far but each time the food was DELICIOUS! We ordered the pizza (standard red sauce, traditional cheese blend, pepperoni, sweet peppers, grated parmesan, and sourdough crust). There are many options for sauces, cheeses, and toppings. Most of these options are artisan. The ingredients are all of the highest quality and the dough is made from scratch. There are a couple items to note. First, there is only seating at the bar next door. This is great if you plan on having a few drinks but in general this is awkward. Second, the online menu offers sides of ranch dressing. This is not your traditional ranch, it is a garlic and dill creation that is more akin to a green goddess dressing. My wife liked it, I did not. It was a letdown for me because the pizza crust is chewy and delicious and I looked forward to some ranch to dip it in. If the online menu indicated what it actually was, I wouldn't have ordered it and saved a couple dollars. Overall, I would recommend Raterman's and I look forward to trying more of...
Read moreThere’s a certain kind of magic that happens when a bakery doesn’t try too hard to impress—but does anyway. Tucked off the main stretch in Dexter, Michigan, Raterman Bread Haus & Bistro feels less like a café, more like a well-kept secret you want to share only selectively. I brought loaves to my German neighbors, who praised the crumb and flavor like it came from a European bakery. Personally I love the Scottish fruit bread, it toasts up nice and I slathered it in Kerrygold, the taste was strikingly like Dutch krentenbollen—sweet, buttery, and just shy of dessert. Their sourdough olive twists are chewy, briny perfection, while the takeaway pizza earned rave reviews from my family, especially the spicy Calabrian pepperoni, which disappeared almost instantly. I also ordered a custom Formaggio pie—no sauce, just cheese, basil, and olives—it was so bright and fresh! Every bite here is deeply flavorful and I can’t wait...
Read moreMy wife read about Raterman’s so we stopped in to give it a try. You walk in and you have two choices, the door on the left or the one on the right. It’s a guessing game. Eventually we figured it out, ordered and went to the other side to order beverages. In a bit our buzzer went off so my wife went to pick up our lunch. But it wasn’t for us - they had meant to buzz someone else. After another wait my wife finally brought lunch over. My first bite and I tasted burnt charred bread. What? At least the burnt side of my sandwich was on the bottom so I wouldn’t see it when I took a bite. Or maybe I would have taken it back. Nope. Got rid of it and left. I don’t think I’ll go back. I did message the owner who said they try to maintain quality and he was sorry that mine didn’t meet that quality. Nah - that sandwich was made by someone who didn’t care what they sent out - how that’s a trained quality standard I’ll...
