The service and atmosphere at BLT were amazing. We felt pampered and well taken care of. The food however made me think of the old nursery rhyme about the little girl with the little curl in the middle of her forehead. When the food was good, it was exceptionally good and when it was bad, it was awful! We ordered the bacon appetizer as well as the beet salad. Both were outstanding, especially the bacon which was the best we had ever eaten. We also loved the popovers.
For our entree we ordered the porterhouse for two. It was beautifully cooked, although under seasoned. We ordered mashed potatoes as our side, which more closely resembled potato soup. They were also bland. We sent them back and ordered the potatoes au gratin instead. I didn't think it was possible, but they were even soupier than the mashed potatoes and were similarly devoid of seasoning. It was strange to think they could make such amazing, complex food and get something as basic as potatoes wrong..more than once!
Reluctant to try more sides, we were offered complimentary dessert instead. My boyfriend had the apple crisp and ice cream and I ordered the lemon cheesecake with huckleberry sorbet. The apple crisp was tasty, but the amount of crisp in comparison to ice cream was disproportionate, leaving lots of crisp left without ice cream. The lemon cheesecake was exquisite and had a lovely brûlée on the top which gave it a delightful crunch in contrast to the creaminess. The glop that was supposed to be sorbet was one of the worst textural and flavor experiences I have ever encountered. The consistency was that of grainy, masticated, juiceless berries that had been frozen together without sugar for some unknown reason. I took one bite and shoved the rest of it to the side to be avoided at all costs. While we enjoyed our time at BLT, we were very disappointed that a restaurant of this caliber would make such huge food mistakes, especially...

WHAT I TRIED:
Rock Shrimp Risotto Short Rib Steamed Buns 1855 Grand Island Angus Flat Iron Pan Seared Grouper Shrimp Alfredo Bison Short Ribs Potato Croquettes Sticky Toffee Pudding Peanut Butter & Jelly Truffles
HIT: How can I choose a favorite when a dinner starts with gruyere popovers and ends with a PB&J dessert? OK, here's the truth; please know that I will always be biased when there's peanut butter or guava anything on a menu. That's my disclosure and I'm sticking to it. With that said, of course I have to go with the PB&J truffles. When I saw the plate, I wondered just how much peanut butter the truffles would have; they looked rather chocolate heavy. One bite in, I knew. SO. MUCH. PEANUT BUTTER. Rich and sweetened with strawberry and Concord grape jelly, there was no other way to end the night than with these babies.
MISS: Not enough truffles? I kid. Nothing to say in this category. I liked it all.
The last of the BLT restaurants remaining in South Florida, this location is a bit of an unsung hero. Hidden away inside the Trump National Doral, I think it's worth the drive. Some of the entrees on the Miami Spice menu weren't as imaginative or refined as I would have liked (Shrimp Alfredo & Pan Seared Grouper), but they were still flavorful and executed right. After looking through their regular menu while there, I'm now curious to return and try it out. More to come from me...
