The Blue Plate - South — Restaurant in Dothan

I have always loved their food, but my last trip was so awful it ruined my whole dining experience and I will not return to this location.Yes, we did show up 30 minutes before close, which I hate doing but we planned on eating quickly and leaving plus leaving a very generous tip for coming so late. We took our seat, and with 3 servers in the dining room and only 2 other families eating, we were walked past and not onc we acknowledged for about 10 to 15 minutes. What I can assume was the manager or owner, brought us menus and drinks and then our server finally came and my husband asked about a meal and she wrote that as his order, which he hadn't decided on, and disappeared. The manager brought out our food and the waitress continued to do get side work and never check on us but kept going to the table in front of us. Finally called her over because we need something and again a few minutes later after she passed my empty drink 5 times. She would quickly get us what we needed and rush off. Very poor attitude and would have to call for her anytime we needed something. I am a waitress so normally never complain but I did on the way out and instead of apologizing or calling a manager, the cashier laughed it off and pretty much blamed us while saying don't come so close to close. We have other things to do and don't have time to wait tables....

TLDR; Despite my own poor attitude, and the busy state of the restaurant, the staff was courteous, kind and respectful. And I want to apologize for being rude and impatient. I was just very tired! Also food is delicious.

I will start off by saying that I ordered over the phone, and drove out to Blue Plate. It was packed for lunch, and servers were rushing too and fro. I was tired, hot and sweaty, and not particularly in a good mood. The rush caused my wait to be extended, which can happen, and I'm afraid I came off impatient. Still, the staff, when I could get my food, was understanding, kind, and very respectful. I think I must have sounded irritable, and even questioned if one of the takeout was mine. That server had the patience of a saint for not snapping at me. No one even made a fuss when I asked for a straw, to realize as I stepped out there was one in the bag. I cooled off in the car, realized I'd been rude, and wanted to give a good review. That staff was working their butts off, and I was snippy, I realized. You guys were wonderful, and like always, the food...

I won tickets for "Dinner & a Movie" through a local radio station. Good thing it covered the price of our meal b/c I wouldn't purposely come here to eat again. Our waitress was very couteous & stopped by several times to see uf we needed anything. She even refilled out drinks w/o being asked. Couldn't have asked for a better waitress! The food however, is another story. I told our waitress I order no or low carb diet. My fiance ordered the meatloaf & 2 side dishes (mashed potatoes & coleslaw). The meatloaf was so hot he couldn't eat most of it. Whoever heard of putting jalapinos in meatloaf? I ordered salmon & 2 side dishes (coleslaw & fresh peas). The waitress brings me the fresh peas like its a salad instead of being served on my plate. I should've asked about the "fresh peas" as Im not from the south. These were "black-eyed peas" type. Gross! The salmon was delicious, but again, they placed it on a bed of under cooked rice. I have another coupon for a free $25.off meal, but we won't...
