Kobe Japanese Hibachi & Sushi — Restaurant in Douglas

My experience here left a lot to be desired. Dining in, you should be mindful that this place says it's hibachi and sushi, but operates more as a takeout restaurant. You will not be given any utensils, you will grab them yourself, and your food will come in Styrofoam containers.

The staff were kind but I felt like more of an inconvenience than I did a customer. Ordering was kind and simple but when my food was brought out, it felt like presentation was an afterthought and that the server was trying to avoid me, which contributed to what I felt was a bad dining experience. I'll get back to this later, but on the topic of dining experience, this is where this place really needs improvement. The floors are sticky, the tables sticky, the lights are dim and the overall atmosphere feels like a crypt. That combined with self serve utensils, Styrofoam, and unlabeled bottles of mystery sauces which I didn't bother trying, made the whole experience feel unwelcoming. That all on top of being sneaked my hibachi meal onto the table while I was looking away made me feel again, that I was more a nuisance eating there than I was staying. Conveniently, my steak hibachi being in a takeout container made it an easy choice to take it home and eat it in a comfortable environment.

Horrible dining experience aside, the food was alright. Sushi was cheap and sufficiently good for the price point, and the steak hibachi has some well cooked vegetables and good rice. The steak itself though was a little soggy and rather bland.

Overall, this place would be great to get takeout from and eat elsewhere, and the food is decent and priced well. However, given my dining experience, I cannot recommend it and will not be...

I use to go to Kobe all the time. There was a bug on the counter. The girl refused to get rid of it acting like she was scared so I smashed it with my hand, and I’m a female. The place is starting to go down a lot. It’s always messy there and the food is becoming mediocre. And for as much as you pay for a meal, you would think they would fill up those tiny cups full of YumYum sauce instead rationing it like they do. All the small cups we received were a quarter full. The biggest complaint I can leave is that the lighting was WAY too dark. As far as the food, the steak (I got hibachi steak) was delicious, but the rice was very dry, moreso than what you would expect of fried rice. And the white sauce tasted a little oily maybe? Like it had too much mayonnaise or something, I'm not sure. The California roll I had was okay though. Overall, probably not my kind...
