Came here for lunch by myself after a doctor's appointment across the way. SO GLAD I did! The restaurant was about half full and I was seated immediately at the bar (their suggestion but also my preference). The atmosphere is pleasant, with spare decor and a Spotify playlist on a TV on the wall playing Jpop and anime music. It was kinda nifty to be able to look up and see the song name and artist in case I wanted to track down a song later. I was asked if I'd like water (I did) and was then left alone with the menu until I'd decided what I wanted and sat up a little. Instantly someone came to take my order, which was delivered within about 10 minutes.
The menu is simple, with 5 ramen options and a list of add ons for extra, and a short list of appetizers, drinks, and dessert, plus a small bowl ramen which could easily be for kids or just someone not that peckish. I got the Kuro Tonkatsu, their take on black garlic ramen. The broth was delicate but flavorful (a neat trick for a garlic dish!), the noodles cooked perfectly, and the chashu actually melted in my mouth. I thought that was a metaphor!
Aside from one brief check in to see if I was enjoying my meal, I was left in peace to properly focus on my ramen, which deserved every bit of my attention. My water was refilled practically without me noticing, and when I finished eating and hit the bathroom, my tray was cleared away and the bill waiting for me when I returned. I'd be surprised if I spent more than 30 minutes! It was a really lovely experience, and I look forward to returning the next time...
Read moreThe Food I've found this place, Fujiwara (Ramen) a while back, and have been meaning to try it. Finally got a chance to do so after hiking with a friend. I originally wanted to get their Kuro Tonkotsu (Black Garlic) ramen, but got their Fujiwara instead. Wanted to get the standard ramen to set a baseline, and probably come back for the Kuro Tonkotsu. The ramen comes in a bonito broth, but is tonkotsu style because it is richer. It is a good broth that is not simple bonito broth, but with added flavor. The toppings are pretty standard with cha-shu, tamago, dried nori, etc.. The noodle is the traditional, slightly thick, wavy type of ramen, it was good. We also ordered Chicken Kara-age as an appetizer. I felt the kara-age was only slightly crispy and not very crunchy, but the flavor was not bad.
The Miscellaneous Fujiwara is inside a shopping plaza, on the first floor, which wasn't too hard to find. There is also a decent amount of parking available within the plaza as well. The interior of the restaurant is interesting. It has a center bar area with seating around the side. The center has a display of sake overhead. They have a good, standard selection of food and drinks on the menu. But it is not overwhelming with too much selection. The prices were reasonable. Their employees are sincere, and provide good service. I would come back and try their other selection if the chance permits. If you are seeking ramen, this is not a bad...
Read moreI am not entirely sure why this joint has a Japanese name, because it is basically a Hong Kong cafe style restaurant with some Japanese food offerings. Maybe it is trying to distinguish itself from the other dozen Chinese joints in the same plaza. The Chinese food was great, awesome comfort food if you are from Hong Kong. I love the curry here, just the right amount of spice, rich and aromatic. Tender beef tendons. The snack dishes are just as authentic, octopus balls with the same curry, perfect chew and softness, I would love to eat those on a stick just like how they are served in the old ways. The Ramens are good, the noodles are the curly egg noodle type that I like, the base broth was OK, pretty basic bone broth, clean. The pork was great, thick and torched, full of flavor. I would come here again especially when they have week...
