This was my third trip to Lawrenceville. I've been next door to Marlow's a couple times. I have noticed La Vuida Negra but never stopped. That all changed last week when I found myself in town again. I headed for Marlow's but as we turned into the parking lot we quickly discovered there was something going on. Needless to say Marlow's appeared full, we drove past LVNC and noticed the manager or owner putting out a " we are still open" sign. I asked my co worker if that seemed acceptable, we found a place to park and went in. WOW! I had no idea i had been missing this place. Cool decor cool vibe! Our server was amazing and the food was so delicious. The only thing that could have made it just over the top would have been a selection, even just a couple, of craft beer. But hey a Pacifico goes with just about any Mexican food right? This was a great experience for me. They even got super busy while we were there due to a Kelsey Bellerini concert at Gas South. Even though the place was full they made more seating and the staff accommodated perfectly 👌.
Five stars! Give La Viuda Negra Cantina a visit today. You won't be...
Read moreHands down, best Mexican food we have had since leaving San Diego! We were going to eat at a pub style restaurant next door, but decided at the last minute that we wanted Mexican food. I am so glad we did because this place was legit. It was a bit higher scale then your average Mexican places, but the prices were still fair. The restaurant had a very cool "Day of the Dead/sugar skull" atmosphere. We arrived fairly early (around 4:40) because we had an event to attend after dinner. They were not busy yet and most of their staff had not arrived for dinner service, so we were seated and served by one of the bar tenders. He was great and very attentive to our needs. We ordered queso w/chorizo dip, empanadas, pork carnitas (get the corn tortillas because they are made in-house and were fantastic), and margaritas. The margaritas were so fresh as we literally watched our waiter hand squeezing limes to get ready for dinner service between checking in on us. The food was just amazing! We can not wait until our next visit to this area to eat here again! We will definitely try the carne asada next time because that also...
Read moreIf I could give a 6, I would. This place had a wonderful atmosphere—beautifully decorated with excellent customer service. Despite the weather and the staffing situation, the management and staff ensured every guest was well taken care of. We've never experienced such attentive service. The waitstaff even apologized for not being able to chat more with us and offered sincere apologies multiple times.
The food was equally impressive. It’s a cantina with a large bar, and though we didn’t drink, they have a great variety and can make anything you like. They offer typical dishes with unique variations, and what we tried was excellent. The chicken soup was very tasty, as were the chicken fajitas and hamburgers. The fries that came with the hamburgers were delicious.
A special thanks to all the staff and management for being open on the day of the snowstorm. We were fortunate to find such a warm, welcoming place with excellent service that truly...
