Mandarin Court — Restaurant in Dumfries

We've been to this restaurant many times because of location and because we enjoy getting both Chinese and Japanese food. The last couple of times that we've eaten here have been disappointing, and today was no exception.

The restaurant was clean and is spacious. The bathroom was also clean. The one really positive thing that I will say for the food is that our beef dish was very tender, and the sauce had great flavor.

That said, our food took forever! There was only one other table seated who were already eating, and yet our food took an hour! When it finally arrived, our sushi was just sad. There was almost no salmon in our rolls (pictured). The rice was mushy, and we couldn't tsste the smoked salmon at all. The broccoli in our beef dish was so undercooked that I had to use a knife to cut it. Some of the food that they brought us was not the way we ordered it. Although my husband and I ordered the same meal, his portion size was considerably larger than mine.

Our server was hard to find and did not check in on us more than once and only late in the meal and in an unfriendly manner. We had to go find the manager (or possibly owner?), and he was polite and quick to fix the food.

When we received the bill, we found that we'd been charged for something we did not order. When we tried to talk to the server about it, she basically said we were wrong and then literally turned and walked away without saying anything else. We were not rude, did not raise our voices, and had barely spoken to her the entire meal, because she was never around, and yet she treated us like we were wasted breath. She was on a personal phone call while talking to us, too.

The manager saw us trying to talk to her and came over. He was polite, recognized the mistake on the bill, and fixed it. Even though he was professional, we ultimately left feeling resented and disappointed in our food. We...

One day I ordered from them ( mind you we had ordered from them almost every other week) and we got what we always get and this time what we had ordered the food came overly cooked. The sweet and sour chicken was so over cooked it crumbled when you picked it up. So we called to ask if we could get a new one delivered to us. They said it would take 45 minutes to an hour to have it delivered to us, even though we live exactly one street over from them. So they suggested we come pick it up. So we went to get new sweet and sour chicken and this batch was worst then the first. So we called again and the person who picked up the phone yelled at me saying if we don’t like his food then don’t order from him anymore. I explained to him I order at least twice a month from them for the past few years and it’s not that we don’t like the food we just want a refund or a better batch or swap it with something else. Well he continued to yell at me so my husband brought the food to him to show him again how this batch was worst than the first and asked for a full refund. He then asked us to not come back, so their lost we now order from New HUNAN in Montclair and it’s amazing food and customer service!

I wasn’t going to write a review but my father in law said he was delivered food from them today. He did not order the food he thought maybe his wife ordered it for him so he took the food and put it in the fridge to eat later well a while later he gets a knock on the door and it was the delivery guy asking for the food back. My father in law said but it’s cold and in the fridge and I’ve already touched it all. The delivery guy still wanted it back. I guess they delivered the touched food to the rightful owner- disgusting!!!!!!! Once the food is in the hands of someone else it’s too...

Been getting delivery from these folks since 2008 . Have had dine in many times as well. Never been disappointed . Read complaints of " lack of flavor" . Suggest telling people what you expect when ordering . I order triple delight or beef and vegetables and other dishes ...but specify " little spicy " , " spicy " or "extra spicy " OMG it's awesome . Also ...I always add black pepper ...fair bit to my Won Ton soup ....what a difference . Sometimes I order chicken Chow Mein ...and here and anyplace I travel get told or asked ...you know just cabbage and chicken ? Crunchy noodle right . Assume so they don't get complaint ...or even they're not fond of it . Really bland as made . But throw those crunchy noodles with 4-5 packets of soy sauce in it ....now you're cooking . Awesome !!! Have to know what you want or how you like it...and ask for it that way . Suspect you'll be more satisfied .

This place is awesome ....not much else down this way is . They really try to take good care of their regulars too ... surprise extras sometimes ...tray of sushi , order of satay beef ...egg rolls etc. Again so glad they're still here after pandemic caused so many to fold up shop....
