TL;DR, - the burritos are nothing to write home about, the Al Pastor tastes like cinnamon and not pineapple or guajillo pepper. I'd of enjoyed a Chipotle burrito more.
The queso fundido is inedible and for $12.99 I could've bought Tosito's queso, a bag of tortilla chips, and a couple avocados and made my own with guac.
Spend your money elsewhere and properly feed your family because this is not a place you want to eat at. My wife and I ordered carry out tonight as we wanted to try a new place and she had a desire for queso.
What we received was not queso. In fact, I would not consider whatever this is to be food. The peppers are aggressive and the cheese was this gooey, congealed mass of cheesy slime. I've provided photos in case I come across as hyperbolic.
We tried adding it to one of our bowls and nuking it, thinking maybe it needed heat to get the cheesy melty. This proved to be a disastrous mistake as I now have a bowl with caked on cheese slime. I'm hoping a soak in some Dawn will make cleanup marginally easier.
What also blows me away is that they decided to serve this 'queso' with tortillas instead of chips. Even with a spoon I couldn't properly load a tortilla because of how gelatinous and viscous the queso...
Read moreThis was our first time dining at El Faro Restaurant, and it won't be our last. We previously got carry out from here a long time ago, and it was great. But we never think of eating here, because we aren't from the immediate area. But I said, "For my birthday, I want to go to El Faro." The food was amazing. The service was a little slow at first, but I will say again...THE FOOD WAS AMAZING! My wife ordered Alambres with AL Pastor for the meat. I've never heard of this dish before, but she thought it was outstanding. It's some sort of cheesy, meet, vegetable combination on a sizzling fajita platter. I didn't try it because I was already too full from what I had ordered. I chose to get a combination that had a steak, a couple of quesadillas, frijoles de Olla and rice. Oh, I also got huaraches with red sauce and nopales (Mexican cactus). This was some sort of an open faced burrito of sorts, only so much better. When I left the restaurant wanting to throw up, not because the food was making me sick but because I ate way too much. But damn, it was good! For a side note, after we drop her kid off for her first day of school on Thursday, we're going over to El Faro restaurant for breakfast. It really...
Read moreYesterday, around 6pm, I was with my family for dinner and we ordered food. When we ordered alcohol, everybody was over 21 but one of us had an ID from out of the country, and the server told us she cannot serve him alcohol because the restaurant only accepts Illinois identification or a passport. This is the only place where I have experienced such blatant ignorance. The date of birth and a photo ID were clearly shown. I even asked to speak with a manager but they were not able to be reached. The food is great but the...
