We were regulars here but after tonight’s dine in service, we will never return back. All we wanted was a quick dessert and appetizer. We arrived there around 8:20pm and the SIGN in the front entrance said the kitchen closes at 9:30pm. As we entered the restaurant, we were greeted by the manager, who had an unpleasant demeanor. She stood up and with an nasty tone, notified us that the kitchen was closing in 5 minutes right after I said ‘how are you’ to her and the hostess. The hostess was actually very friendly and the only one who greeted us nicely. She seated us and offered us popcorn with a beautiful smile on her face. Then our waiter came by and asked us if we wanted anything to drink. We said water please and then he proceeded to ask us again as if we’d change our minds. I told him that we don’t drink alcohol and he responded that we have sodas here with a sarcastic tone. I don’t drink soda and neither does my partner. That comment definitely rubbed me the wrong way. When he returned back with our drinks, we said we already knew what we wanted: calamari, lava cake, and a fudge brownie. A pretty simple order. When he came back with our food, he exaggerated that he was relieved that we didn’t order pizza. Just FYI we are very laid back or as our waiter called us ‘very chill.’ While we are being spoken to this way, the couple sitting in the booth behind us are receiving a much more pleasant interaction with our waiter. He barely made any eye contact with us and was brief with our interactions. The ironic part was we left and the couple was still there ordering desserts after the kitchen was supposedly closed. I don’t know if it’s because we dressed casually or that I’m racially ambiguous but that was extremely poor service on the waiter and the manager. However, the hostess was exceptional. I was extremely dissatisfied and baffled by this experience. We’ve always been treated well here by the staff until this evening. We still tipped our waiter 20% even though I felt like he didn’t deserve it. I had better interactions with the Taco Bell drive-thrus than what we experienced here tonight and that...
Read moreI hate giving this place a 3 star, as it has been historically good since I started going there 30 years ago... We went out with family for dinner. I don't know about the rest of our party (there were 8 total, including 2 children), but my fiancee's and my meals seriously missed the mark. The calamari we had was wonderful and cooked perfectly. My fiancee ordered the "Italian wedding soup" for her soup selection, and what came out was more like beef vegetable. I had the filet souvlaki, and I was very disappointed with the portion vs. the price. One skewer with four small (yes, about 2 small bites each) pieces of meat and mostly vegetables?? Not worth the price. My fiancee had the fish and chips, and the fish was very dry.
There was a rehearsal dinner going on in the back room, but that should not affect food quality. For a place that has been around since 1974, the kitchen should be able to handle a special party AND the regular dinner crowd.
I am really hoping that this was a one-off thing, because I do love this place. It's a staple of West Dundee. I have also eaten at their South Elgin and Crystal Lake locations, and they are just as good. We will be back, yes, but it...
Read moreI am not sure how this place has such good reviews and our experience was so different. The atmosphere is great when we walked in there was a live band and the patio where we sat was perfect for a day with nice weather. The waitress was very nice too. Unfortunately everything else was very bad. We’re not that picky but we were so surprised by the quality we honestly put this in the top 3 worst places we’ve ever eaten. The water had a very intense and weird taste, the coke was flat, the spanakopita was clearly a premade frozen one that they put in the oven. The chicken tenders were so dry and my husbands burger was so bad that he took one bite and didn’t eat any more. We are not the type of people that won’t eat the food if it’s not perfect so to leave it all on the plate and decide to go pay another restaurant to eat means this was really bad! It’s unfortunate because the place seems so nice but if you can’t even drink the water that’s a dealbreaker for sure. Also the high chair we got for our daughter was so dirty even the waiter noticed and was apologising. We couldn’t even clean it well enough with our baby wipes so we ended up not using it. We were very disappointed...
