Avellino's Pizzeria & Sports Bar — Restaurant in Dunellen

I don't know what happened to this restaurant. As local Dunellen residents we used to visit often especially on Mondays for their half price pasta dishes. Last time we came, just before covid, the penne vodka was watery but we figured we just cought them on a bad night. Tonight, after I checked the website and saw their dine-in only, half price pasta still advertised, we thought we'd go back. What a let down. The pasta is clearly pre-cooked and then re-cooked so it's overdone. The chicken is no longer crumbed like it used to be, instead just plain chicken bits that taste like they're seasoned to go on a sub sandwich. No way do I expect fine Italian dining here, but I wish the basics of rich flavor and well cooked pasta would at least be there.

Our waiter was great, he kept our drinks filled and brought us several servings of their crunchy garlic bread 👍

Lastly, we had to argue with the owner about the bill since they no longer have the half price pasta, eventhough it's still on their main page on the website (their website guy aparently hasn't replied to them in over 2 years). Take away pizza on Wednesday is still a good deal, but as far as an Italian pasta dish goes, $17 for overcooked pasta and dry chicken, which by the way is still being served on paper plates, just...

I come here every once in a while, since I live in town. It's usually always good, no issues. I got to say, their buffalo wings have improved drastically. They are bigger and better now. I usually would go to other places to get wings since they were bigger and more worth the price. The pizza here is always good when I feel like having a more normal sized crust instead of thin crust. I prefer thin crust, but Avellino's pizza doesn't disappoint. My father comes down and takes us here every once in a while, on Saturdays. This recent Saturday we got Chicken noodle, Minestrone soup, a pizza pie for the table and the mozzarella and tomato appetizer. The mozz and tomato app was delicious. No complaints to be heard. I LOVE this place. I get the same thing over and over; their Chicken Francaise dinner. We typically always have it delivered. Every SINGLE damn time, it's MORE delicious than the last time I ate it, without fail. We typically order two to three times a month for takeout. The portions are enormous too. I eat it leftover a second day, sometimes, a 3rd day. When it arrives from delivery it is always piping hot, which I appreciate so much. I love every one at this restaurant. From the person that takes our delivery order over the phone, to the people that are making the food, to the people that are delivering it to me.
