Dunellen Bagel — Restaurant in Dunellen

If you are a person of color and want to be treated with good customer service this is not the place for you. I went to Dunellen Bagel a while ago and they refused to take my order. I was waiting for 5 minutes and there was no one else in line and they didn't seem busy either, matter of fact the staff recognized me but instead of saying hello or saying they will be with me in a moment they proceeded to ignore me until I had enough and decided to leave. They also had a lady as the cashier that was around that did nothing to help as well also just to clarify they were not overwhelmed in any way. I never felt so disrespected at a restaurant before and for that reason I will never go back to spend a dime on their establishment and anyone that has had this experience before I will tell you to spread the word.

Bagels are best around. While the employees are not very talkative or friendly, the food is good. They're system seems to be that if you take the order, you make the order. So sometimes there are 3 people making food at the same time and no one taking orders. So if you come in, you could end up waiting 3 to 5 minutes to place your order until one of the people behind the counter finishes the order they took prior to you coming in. That may not seem like a long time but when you're trying to get to work, it is. It's not that big of a kitchen so they really are on top of each other. They really should try having 1 person on the grill, 1 that assembles the sandwiches and 1 that takes the orders and payments. Just...

The Big Breakfast bagel is delicious. The bagels are usually pretty tasty but are more dense that some other bagel spots. The specialty cream cheeses are great too, and you'll have enough of it to spread on at least 3 bagels.

My biggest gripe here is the service and cleanliness, or lack there off. I don't understand why they wouldn't just have 1 person be by the grill to constantly make eggs, bacon, pork roll etc. Their system makes for long waits and while you wait, all you notice is the amount of things that need a clean. The ceiling fans are full of black dust, every nook and cranny is filled with crumbs. I really wish they'd take a few days to deep...
