We visited Anjappar Durham recently based off the rave reviews online. It was 50 minutes before closing time when we reached, we were asked to place a single order which was understandable.
The food was extremely underwhelming. The chicken boneless biryani, the chicken kotthu parantha, the chicken kari dosa tasted exactly the same with the same flavour profile.Their dosas were good though which we had to share amongst 6 people because of the flavour fatigue of not being able to eat the other dishes. When we provided this feedback to the staff they mocked us saying we could not differentiate the flavours because we did not hail from South India. We even asked them to let the customer know as a heads up if they are ordering several dishes that might end up tasting the same, to which they replied," you did not ask us if it will taste the same", which sounds like some illogical prophecy we should have done.
We have tried the same dishes at different Anjappar locations and they were prepared absolutely...
Read moreBeing from Delhi, we know a good plate of chole bhature when we taste one, and let me tell you—Anjappar’s chole bhature is the best we’ve had in the US. Perfectly fluffy bhature paired with rich, flavorful chole that reminded us of home with every bite. It’s simply outstanding!
A special shoutout to Priyanka, whose warm smile and prompt service make dining here an absolute joy. She greets us every time with such grace and makes us feel so welcomed. Kudos to her for being an exceptional host! Additionally, Chaitanya deserves a mention for his impeccable service—dining in feels so smooth and enjoyable thanks to his attentive approach.
We’re also huge fans of their rasam soup, which is comfort in a bowl, and their dosa, which is perfection to the T. Anjappar has truly mastered the art of blending authentic flavors with top-notch hospitality. Highly recommend to anyone looking for an unforgettable...
Read moreSuper excited to have Anjappar here in Durham! It's awesome to have a Southern Indian restaurant with so many dishes you don't commonly find on Indian menus in the States. We had the paneer anjappar masala, paneer kali mirchi (my favorite), and basil garlic naan. It was all great.
Word to the wise: I usually order my food 3/5 spicy (4/5 if I suspect they hold back lol), but I found their medium 2/5 spicy perfect for my taste.
Also, the host was super kind! I ordered curbside pickup through Toast but ended up walking in to get my food. The curb in front was full, and I didn't want to ask an employee to walk any further to me with it being cold outside. The host noticed my curbside pickup ticket and, without me saying anything, offered, "next time just call me wherever you park and I'll come find you!"
I'll be back to dine in - looking forward to trying the Indo-Chinese dishes...
